Why don today's movie posters all look like photobashed garbage?
$$$

Because no one is willing to hire an artist. The same reason Marvel doesn't have any memorable soundtrack music.

Torrenting and streaming ruined the movie industry.
Thanks poorfags

Kind of true.
That's why they make lots of shitty movies to get people into the cinema instead of trying to make classics like Jurassic park that people will want to watch 20 years later.
What's the point in people wanting to watch a movie 20 years later when hardly anyone buys dvds or blueray?
>>84718670
Um, no sweetie.
Good posters require good artists which requires paying them a decent fee. However we live under a capitalist model which means spending as little money required to get the minimum job required done. This cannot change until the source of modern currency changes in a substantial way, as the Treasury can just print money, it essentially means the government is run by a top-down, "whoever has the most money gets what they want" approach, which leaves little room for taste, aesthetics, or idealogies which don't fit into attaining more of this inflationary money.
Until we move over to a crypto currency you can expect more shitty posters.

Jesus Christ that comment was so retarded it almost physically hurt.

Movie posters have been largely shit since the 90s. That's when we started getting terrible photo posters. What ruined the movie industries was producers and studio execs taking too large of a cut, which drives up a movie's budget and makes it harder to make its money back.

Even the typography is boring.
Focus Group Testing.
Same thing that sunk hillary's campaign. Turns out when you study how to manufacture appeal to people, you end up sounding and appearing artificial
They moved away from actual artists making them because it's cheaper to just get some simpleton with a computer to plaster a photo of the actors with text.
That's what the suits want
>>84720352
But is it what the people accept?
>>84719757
I don't understand.
What was the last great movie poster?

This poster makes my dick hard.
I don't even want to see the movie because there's no way its going to live up to the movie that pops in my head looking at it.
>>84719478
photo posters are fine if done right. There's plenty of good photo posters. I would refer to the John Wick poster where his tie is a fuse, with the tagline "don't set him off" (another thing no longer in movie posters. remember those?) but John Wick in general is a movie that got lost somewhere along it's way to the late 90's, which makes it more of an exception.

I'm waiting on a good torrent, the poster sold me on the movie immediately.

If you try to be cool you aint cool.

It was a different time.
I think the problem is marketing. Everything is just way too overmarketed. ESPECIALLY movies. it has to appeal to everyone, or specific markets, and so, much like how studios shoehorn CG instead of practical not because of cost but because "CG makes it a blockbuster", covers are generic as fuck and garbage because "that makes it a blockbuster". There's no effort put into them.
Also, in general, posters are not the end all be all of advertising anymore. back when it was just TV commercials and posters on bus stops sure, but with the advent of the internet, posters are much less important. Instead, movie clips and commercials take the forefront. So posters have become a dying art, because studios dont see the point in putting too much effort in them. When a GOOD movie poster comes around, it's a deliberate, conscious attempt.

>To fight monsters we created monsters
B-but they created robots?
>>84724835
a Good example of the marketing thing is the new DOOM game that came out last year. this was the cover art. boring, bland generic space marine standing facing the camera.
>>84724892
but the box actually had a reversible sleeve. And this was the alternate cover art. And in fact, this represents the game a hell of a lot better, while paying homage to the original box art.
Why isn't this the main art you ask? well because the market expects the bland space marine standing on the cover. it's what every other AAA FPS does, so they follow suit because they want that audience to buy it.
>>84722180
Yes because it keeps happening
>>84724923
(better res)
>>84724923
fug i pirated, would have brought if that was the real cover
>>84724892
What's so bad about it?
>>84724976
the box has a reversible cover. you pull the slip out and this is on the back of it.
yet another reason I've grown to resent Steam. nothing comes in boxes for PC anymore
>>84725026
it's generic as fuck
>>84724892
I wish they'd kept the revenant as the box art. that was simple AND cool
>>84718928
sweetie-posters MUST be stopped
>>84719478
Nothing makes me go hard autist than a poster with two actors and the names above Or below them don't match up.
>>84725500
umm, we're not going anywhere, sweetie~
>>84725600
HOLD ON TO YOUR SHIT
