I don't get it

Allow me to explain the joke so this stupid meme can die.

The joke is that somebody changed the name of "Chucks" which is memorable and which people would have been used to, to "Sneed's Feed & Seed" which is not just a stupid name but difficult to pronounce. Furthermore people would refer to it as "Sneed's" instead of "Sneed's Feed & Seed", just like nobody calls KFC "Kentucky Fried Chicken".

Essentially the joke is that someone was too stupid enough to keep the memorable name "Chuck's" and use a retarded name instead. Note also the "Formerly" part, which implies that nobody was going to it because they were used to "Chucks", so the owner of the stupid name store had to change the sign to remind people that it's still the same place as Chuck's but with a different (and pointless) name.

It's a reference to the famous American ventriloquist, Edgar Bergen. Younger people don't get the reference. For years, his most famous character was Charlie McCarthy or "Chuck", until he introduced a new character named "Mortimer Sneed". Sneed quickly overtook Chuck's popularity. The feed part is because, both characters being puppets, means they were "fed" their lines via Bergen who acts as the setup or "seed" that allows their punchlines to blossom. All of this info being taken into consideration should make it quite obvious that "Sneed's Feed and Seed - Formerly Chuck's" is a wry commentary on American entertainment of the baby boomer era, which neatly fits into the wheelhouse of what The Simpsons always satirizes.

Just because the current name rhymes doesn't mean the previous name had to rhyme as well. What an unnecessary symmetry it is. I understand that the writer intended the joke to be just that but it's a shitty fucking joke because there's no need to have the previous name rhymes just because the current one does.
