I really think things spiraled out of his control very fast. He thought he was Gus and really he was in over his head. Life is very complex. I'm sure he loved it and hated it simultaneously. It was a thrill. He got recognition and lost his family. Live free or die. Ironically, this resulted him going full hermit in a cabin for 6 months. So I'm really not sure what the lasting impression is here other than: "huh."
