Having rewatched the series recently I must agree.

I've put GBU on a pedestal for too long but it ends up being too raunchy, too lazy. Only the cemetery scene is great.

GBU is too bloated and Clint's character isn't as good in it. "Ecstasy of Gold" and the final duel are pure kino, but the rest isn't as good as the first two.

I like 3 a lot for the portrayal of the Civil War.
Maybe it's an American thing.
They're all great though, even though the first two are heavily, heavily reminiscent of Yojimbo/Sanjuro.
