Technically, the only degenerate nation out of the bunch is the earth nation. It has desert raiders and those poor slums. But even then it's not like they're immigrating to the fire nation and ruining the conditions of the country. No, they tons of things wrong. They gave an inordinately large amount of resources to Admiral Zhao even though he lost more battles than he won. He couldn't even beat Zuko, so why even give him an army. Then Ozai was like "Let's spend a ton of money on a giant drill!" even though it ended up failing, while Azula succeeded with the far cheaper plan of convincing the Dai Li to lower the wall. And even if Azula knew strategy, Ozai should've known that she would make a bad ruler in the long run. He should've married a new wife and bred some heirs with her in case Azula didn't work out.

Benders depend a lot on their powers, why build a big metal ship when you can just make an ice ship and move it yourself? Why make machines which allow you to build big buildings if you can literally just move the rocks with your powers?

Also, being able to control fire/heat gives them easy access to metallurgy, they probably don't even have very developed foundries or ovens, they just melt shit with their powers.

What exactly did the airbenders do to deserve genocide? They were just peaceful monks who kept to themselves in their air temples. The fire nation never provide a justification for this action. I know its a meme but they really did do something wrong.
