OBJECTIVE TNG SEASON TIER LIST

6>5>4>3>7>2>1

I'm actually not sure about the order of 3 and 7, but everything else is definitely correct.
>>
Wut? TNG peaks at 4/5, half of 6 is complete skippable mediocre crap.
>>
>>84628376
Is it indeed "autistic" to do this? I do this for all of my favorite director's filmographies and all of my favorite band's discographies (track by track) to determine what's really the best.

Also, putting S1 under S7 is a crime against Trek.

I dunno. It's more of a disclaimer than anything. inb4 autism.
S7 has the worst episode of TNG (Sub Rosa), but it also has more 10/10 episodes than any other season (Parallels, The Pegasus, All Good Things...).
I'll also fight anyone who argues that All Good Things... isn't easily the best Trek finale ever and one of the greatest TV finales of all time.
>>
/trek/, convince me to pick up DS9 again. Stopped 3/4 of the way through season 4 because I got tired of "The Worf Show, with cameos from the crew of some space station." Does it ever get back on track?
>>
Worf is like those African Americans, that wear "traditional african clothing" in America.
>>
>>84628774
Season 4 is actually my favourite DS9 season so if you didn't like it I wouldn't bother going further.
>>
>>84628811
Uh, more like a superpower allowing another superpower's only member inside Starfleet to have some leniency in their uniform.
>>
>>84628881
it isn't just that. everything word does, is just him LARPing as a klingon.
>>
Am I remembering wrong or did they force Rho to remove her bajoran ornament because it was against starfleet regulations?
>>
>>84629038

They did, but Picard decided to let her wear it at the end of her first episode.
>>
>>84628774
man why all the hate for Worf? he is great in DS9, not just some punching bag or token klingon
>>
>>84629106

Never said I hated him, just got tired of every third episode being Klingon political bullshit, especially considering they were treading ground already explored in TNG. His arrival completely killed the momentum of the show for me.

Who would be the most likely character to celebrate the 4th of July. Trip, Archer or Kirk?
>>
>>84629624
>implying any of them would risk being executed
>>
>>84629624
Considering Kirk wasn't alive when the USA was a thing, probably not him.
Tucker was born in Florida and Archer was born in New York. Considering Florida had a huge chunk of it obliterated, you could assume that many people would move away and not return, so it wouldn't have as many large celebrations as New York.
Therefore, Archer would have the highest chance of celebrating it.
>>
>>84629451
All the Klingon political bullshit ends in the middle of season 5.

And as a bonus we get Martok as a regular character. Martok is great and he's an actual Klingon, unlike Worf who only knows his people's culture as much as it is covered in Federation Wikipedia.

You told them that 'you don't have the freedom to kill them to save another because your culture finds that to be a reprehensible and entirely unacceptable act.' Yet here you are proposing just that. So then, is it merely a question of numbers? Are my rights and freedoms not inalienable when confronted with the needs of the many? Or is it just because you want your friends back In which case, your emotional objectivity in this matter has been evidently compromised and you should recuse yourself from making this decision.

Also is the doctor the only good character in voyager?
>>
>>84634850
Read about an unproduced episode idea called 'The Trial of Captain Janeway' where the crew put Janeway on trial for her actions while captaining Voyager. It was scrapped because the execs didn't want the first female captain to be perceived as weak, which is funny to me because she ended seeming like a heartless autocrat, at least in the sense that she was never wrong. They managed that pretty well with Picard who always thought carefully and ultimately listened to his conscience, which sometimes meant disobeying orders but the stories were written to make it clear that this was a situation where that was the right thing to do.

That combined with the weekly reset stirytelling and direct order to write the characters as fixed and unchanging to make the alien races pop, you're left with a character who wasn't weak but didn't feel very human either.

The episode could have humanised her by having her own her mistakes and acknowledge her falibility. It could have been on par with the other famous Trek Trial episodes.

Oh well, that's Voyager. Missed opportunities and bad creative decisions.

>>

>Also is the doctor the only good character in voyager?

not really, remember that episode of TNG where Picard was concerned about a planet wanting to enter the federation when it was still split in two separate governments
im pretty sure that those countries have no real autonomy, there is a leader of earth im sure, but even then, with Federation being a hoo-mans club mostly, im sure the Federation president is the one who has the real say in things, and he's probably not elected by the people either, it wouldn't make sense, we can clearly see that in real life, elections made by people (trump, brexit) are wrong choices, federation is too good to have been elected by some dipshits. It's likely that ambassadors from different worlds elect the president instead.

Time Squared right? That episode is fucking based and no one talks about it. I love how there's no real solution at all, in the end he just decides to take a gamble and kill himself. No technobabble explanation for what happened, no stupid miracle solution at the last minute, just plain dumb luck.
It's why I still think the VOY episode "Twisted" is good. There's no solution, they just decide to let it happen. The crew eventually breaks down and starts getting pissed at each other, Janeway is mumbling in a corner after getting all fucked up, Chakotay fucking loses it and snaps at Tuvok, it's great.

Data, Moriarty and the Doctor all make sense. The thing to keep in mind is computational scale.

Moriarty and the Doctor both have an entire starship's computer system behind their brains. The computer cores in both the Enterprise and Voyager are large megastructures like IBM's Watson and Google's AI.

Data was amazing because he was a rudimentary AI in a human form factor. Positronic technology is an emerging thing in the TNG era.
>>
Anyone else regret Neelix's character development?

In the pilot he was annoying but he was also an asshole and his antics were interesting and showed the lawlessness of the delta quadrant

Generally, you know a series has jumped the shark when you have one of those trial episodes near entirely made from flashback footage cobbled together from earlier in the series.

Voyager was always over budget, but money was the one thing they had going for them, so I don't think they had to stoop to that particular traditional death knell.

Plus, there's no death penalty in the Federation - well, except for visiting a certain planet, which was in the wrong quadrant, so it couldn't have ended well.

Because they were conveniently not allowed to use them ever again. It's like how species 8472 conveniently were "worse" than the Borg so it was "okay" for Janeway to help the Borg defeat them. Then the writers shoot themselves in the foot by making them be totally rational and not spaced Nazis like they were originally portrayed as. So in reality, Janeway helped the Borg fight a species just as diverse as their own in terms of political viewpoints who were only defending themselves. Her only evidence of them being space Nazis was based off Kes barely reading the mind of just one member of their species that had a superiority complex towards all lifeforms that weren't of his species and judged the rest of them off that. That'd be like an alien only meeting with a single neo Nazi and deciding that's how all white people think.

You know what I found hilarious about that episode? That Moriarty completely misinterpreted the line "I think therefor I am" to show that he could exist int he real world by walking out of the holodeck. What Descartes meant by that was even though he could doubt the existence of his body and the world around him, he knew that his mind existed which is what encompassed how he viewed being alive. Being a thinking thing doesn't mean your body or world around you is real or you can make it real simply by willing it into existence. So just because Moriarty's mind was real and what he was thinking was real, his body and everything else was an illusion. You'd think Picard, being the intellectual would have pointed out that flaw and how archaic that way of thinking is, even in our time.

Sloane didn't even know Bashir wouldn't willingly give the cure to the Founders like he tried with the Jem'Hadar's white addition, nevermind predict that he'd cure Odo who would somehow negociate a peace treaty. They were just going to murder the Founders and let their clones die out after.

Yes he did. They had his corpse and Julian would have checked after what happened last time they met.

Tuvix calls the crew "his friends" while maintaining he is a separate and unique life. If that were true then he wouldn't have had any time to make friends. He is a freak and a creep of the highest order.

I don't understand the sympathy for Tuvix. Never have, never will.

Bashir was a shit character desu
>>
>>84644296

Easily one of the worst guest characters, and the worst in the Think Tank. How ANYONE in the federation could see Jack and think 'yeah, he's okay under supervision' was just as autistic as the Think Tank. Furthermore, not only was he the most violence-prone, but he was the only one with the spine to be a 'leader' by using sociopathic tendencies to guilt the others into following him. Mother fucker was like a galactic Charles Manson.

wait a minute.

Kes travels back in time, warns voyager about the Krenim and the phased torpedoes, then 1 season later they encounter them and are confused by the same thing they were warned about.

Sure, seven is on the ship and kes is not, meaining that reality where kes was on the ship didn't happen. but the phase variance or whatever is exactly the same.

http://memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/Year_of_Hell_(episode)#Continuity

>"Even though the dialogue from "Year of Hell" doesn't directly reflect on any of the knowledge Kes shared, Tuvok picks up on the Krenim torpedo being in temporal flux as soon as the first torpedo hits, thus proving that Kes' report was indeed put to good use even though it wasn't officially acknowledged."

Yea nah son, fuck off. they got hit multiple times then he says it. they wouldn't even get hit in the first place if there was continuity.

I think you're overstating it, these are the only Worf episodes in season 4:

>1/2 - Way of the Warrior
>9 - The Sword of Kahless
>15 - Sons of Mogh

Sword and Sons are crap, but Rules of Engagement is one of my top 10 episodes. And that season has the most Worf episodes out of any of the remainders.

Star Trek is undeniably liberal and progressive, but there were some really weird and regressive scenes that stood out to me over the years:

>Kirk voted for Donald J. Trump
>Sisko routinely misgenders Jadzia
>Kes confesses to Paris that Neelix is molesting her, and he starts grooming her too
>That time Jadzia Dax and her Klingon friends murdered a late-term abortion doctor
>7 of 9 insists to Naomi Wildman that Barack Obama is actually not a valid American citizen
>Picards helps forcibly displace the Indians because of a treaty with the Cardassians
>Dax tries to redpill Bashir by showing him the chart with all the Bajorans in top media positions
>O’Brien complains that “petaQ” is just a word and it’s silly “only Klingons can say it”
>Kira coaches Ziyal on how to milk the Occupation for maximum sympathy
>Bashir tells Ezri that he’s glad she’s “not a slut anymore”
>Janeway says “we have to out-Ferengi the Ferengi”
>Tuvok walks on the bridge and Neelix makes money noises
>Chakotay was actually Armenian but pretended to be Indian for attention
>Soval uses the phrase “the eternal Ando”
>Odo says the only reason he didn't join the Cardassians is he couldn't replicate the spoon
>Shran says “pinkskins” but starts stuttering after noticing Mayweather
>T’pol explains to Archer the difference in IQ distributions between species
>Chekov tells Sulu that Russia should have conquered Japan like it conquered the Ukraine
>Kirk jokes with Scotty about Spock’s mother being a race-mixer
>Bones called Spock “Jew, Green blooded bastard”
>Gowron calls Worf “a subklingon fucking targ”
>Worf enters Picard’s ready room without knocking and gets phasered
>Data tells Geordi that he’s just as beta as Barclay, but people take pity on him because he’s blind
>"'Gentle' was bred out of these Cardassians a long time ago"
>Admiral Janeway insists that the Klingons were responsible for leaking the logs proving she committed genocide and aided The Borg
>>
>>84646903

>>
>>84647220
But why do you enjoy fantasy? I enjoy trek because like others I forsee our race on day becoming the federation, maybe without as many aliens but without enough resources and technology that menial labour is completely gone. You don't need to pay money for food when the production of the food is done fully autonomously and with renewable energy.

Personally, if I wanted some self-centered patriotic future for america/the world. My ideal sci-fi would not be star-trek. It would likely be some greek/roman fantasy where totalitarian dicators are common place and looked up upon, and their word is law.

You're naive, the future holds nothing for you but the boot on your neck applying more pressure, Star Trek is what could have been if (((someone))) wasn't taking control of the world's banks, media and government with the intention of wiping us out. Star Trek is how we escape from reality for 40 minutes.
