American WW2 movies by mainstream directors are flicks.

I mean look at hacksaw ridge. 10 minute standing ovation for transformers with garands.

Expect big explosions, evil Nazi's with a scene or two showing a young Hitler youth doing something human and a allied pat on the back about how they banded together to desert France.

>meanwhile enemy at the gate, the only mainstream american war film to show where the true war happened, portrays the Russians as zerglings.

I mean if you know little about the history and love big explosions, it will be right down your alley.

>>

I actually though this same thing. Seems a very Nolan thing to do. Unfortunately I doubt it will happen because it's based on a real battle and that runs the risk of being offensive.
If this was a WWII battle that never actually happened then yeah I'd totally expect that as well.

Because those of us that actually want to see it already know about it. And the amount of money that studios spend on marketing/hype is directly proportional to how shit they think the movie is going to be and how badly it is going to fail.

If its going to be bad the studios spend money on marketing to get as many people in as possible on opeinng weekend before the word spreads about how shit it is.

If it's going to be a classic for the ages they spend next to nothing on marketing and let the film run to near packed audiences for many weeks after it is released because people go around telling their friends how good it is and people also go again. And a war movie like this it's not like people have to go and see it at opening weekend to avoid any spoilers, we all know what happened.

How does OP not know this basic movie shit?

>The film is told from three points of view. The air (planes), the land (on the beach) and the sea (the evacuation by the navy). For the soldiers embarked in the conflict, the events took place on different temporalities,” Nolan said (via Google translation). “On land, some stayed one week stuck on the beach. On the water, the events lasted a maximum day; And if you were flying to Dunkirk, the British spitfires would carry an hour of fuel. To mingle these different versions of history, one had to mix the temporal strata. Hence the complicated structure; Even if the story, once again, is very simple.

It's just going to be the usual cross-cutting between the different characters set to increasingly dramatic Zimmer soundtrack. Nolan is a fucking hack and he knows it, but he knows that big words such as "temporal strata" are enough to get all the redditors erect so he doesn't give a shit or attempt anything different.

I'd definitely recommend the rest of the World War series. The Colonization series that takes place afterwards gets a bit ridiculous, at that point he's extrapolating into the 80's, but the overall story of Humanity vs the lizards is one of my favorites in all of sci-fi.

It will be his best film since Prestige. /tv/ will call it boring because there is little to no dialogue and all the soldiers will be no names with zero history, everything will be told visually.
It will be a tense thriller about transporting a fuckload of people from point A to point B, not the usual "war is hell" scenario. I suspect Oscars for Directing and Sound Editing.
Screencap if you want.

This stupid fucking meme again. The german lines were already over-extended and the french were giving up more than a token resistance.
If the germans "let them go" then why was the luftwaffe bombing the shit out of the beaches? The only reason they weren't killed on the beach is because a lot of the bombs just burried themselves in the sand without going off.
German forces were reconnecting and getting ready to march in and crush them between the sea and the army. Thats why the evacuation was such a big deal, it was their one chance of not getting annihilated.
