I haven't seen Lee's Hulk. You nailed exactly my issue with the comparison between Westerns and superhero movies though. Genuine auteurs worked in the Western genre and produced authentic, deeply felt films that could subvert or embrace conventions because of the skill of the people behind the camera. Superhero movies are now just a bland wall of the same boring tropes repeatedly spewed by workmanlike directors where it's nearly impossible to tell one film from another in terms of style. Snyder would be the exception to the rule but as talented as he is as a visual stylist he is a bit lacking in other areas, definitely the best person that consistently works within the genre though.

I went to check just for kicks and the theatre I usually go is completely empty at all 7 showings of the day. The thing is that it's the only IMAX theatre in my area, and there are just 5 in the whole country, but they're not even showing it in IMAX.

It was the worst part of the movie. I disliked the look of the Hulk in Ang's movie. And I didn't like how they tied his size to his anger. But other than that, I very much enjoyed the movie. I especially enjoyed the "escape from the bunker" scene. I was the first time I ever saw a live action Hulk in some destruction porn kino. The tv show was great when I was a kid, but Ang's movie blew that away.

I also enjoyed the DVD extras. Ang Lee was quite the autist. There is video of Lee in a CGI suit acting out some of the Hulk's scenes. Then there is the clip of his team informing him that the fight scenes he wants in the movie are way too expensive.

Is pre-ordering tickets to regular old theaters a thing now? I only go to Alamo Drafthouse, so I wouldn't know, they've been doing seat reservations forever.
