The Saint of Killers eventually kills god himself and that's how the Preacher series ends.
It's pretty fucking stupid. Also Jessie dies. Tulip dies too but she gets brought back to life.
I know it's not /tv/ but in the Darkness videogame hell is basically a twisted WW1 battlefield with everyone trapped in an eternal conflict
>>84602328
Preacher (to me) was baby's first edgy work of fiction. Ennis is just some twisted king of dumb stupid edgy writing.
It's fantastic when he has an editor keep his dumb shit in line, that's when he makes incredible things like his Hellblazer stuff or Punisher. When he goes full-retard is things like Crossed, which is basically Preacher without a plot.
This show is just a bad adaptation of a really bad comic that has a lot of nostalgia attached to it. The overarching mythology in the Preacher world is hardly relevant to the story. It's just a story about a guy who had a hard fucking life and horrible shit happens to him as supernatural bullshit is bestowed on him. I'll admit that Preacher has a million awesome moments but there's no goddamn cohesiveness to it; it's like a comic with the framework of an episode of Jackass.
>>84602328
>Also Jessie dies. Tulip dies too but she gets brought back to life.those events happen at different times,
Tulip's in like the first year and Jesse at the end.Cassidy dies too but comes back human

>This show is just a bad adaptation of a really bad comic
True, it's a bad adaption of the comic and is also a huge improvement of the comic apart from character Tulip which they fucked up badly. Everything in the show apart from Tulip is more interesting and coherent.

Is this show any good? How much does Hell play a role in the series? Is it merely a 1 time thing in a single episode or a constant theme?
>>84604725
one of the character are currently in hell and hell is a room where the replay the worst part of you life over and over
but the character who is in hell didnt die to go to hell he was just sent there so the room is no longer working on him so they gonna explore hell
in the comic the devil and the grim reaper plays games toghther and watchs the world and give commentary

>it's like a comic with the framework of an episode of Jackass.
I'm stealing this.
I read preacher ~3 years ago and it felt so confusing. Because so many I know talked well about it, and it had so many things that I liked. But I always had this weird feeling in my gut when reading and when it ended I felt relieved. It was only when I was done and looked back on it that I understood how fucking crap it was.And it might have helped the comic that I was lying in the hospital with anaemia and malnourishment when I read it

It's a real dud.

>The problem with the old place was most of the inmates were masochists already. A lot of "thank you sir, can I have another hot poker up the jacksy?" Just look at them. No one likes waiting in line.

>Nothing. They get right back to the end again. That's efficiency.
>>84605567
The timeline doesn't fit.
He did it in the comics right after Cobain pussied out of life, doing it now wouldn't make sense unless there's some famous actor/musician who was into death and misery who killed themselves for him to copy.
>>84605618
Preacher might work better if you read it monthly instead of in one big hit, it took five and a half years from start to finish(give or take a month or two). I've found this with a few comic series, you get years of great ideas and content delivered in hours when it was meant to be read one issue at a time over a long period so you'd miss the repetition of themes and jokes and some other parts.
The other thing about Preacher is that it is truly a product of the 90s, it set itself firmly in that time period in a major way which makes it kind of hard to read today.
>>84608312
Well we just lost Chris Cornell and Scott Weiland
Thankfully we'll have Eddie Vedder forever
>>84608546
I'd say that it would have to be a suicide that really shocked people and it would also need to be one with a shotgun/gun to have the copycat feel and lead to the birth of arseface.
>>84608607
>>84608312
>>84605567
It makes more sense now than the original version because now it references the woman pulling the trigger

Woah, cool! Hey did you know they buried all the unsold E.T. for Atari cartridges in a New Mexico landfill and Super Mario Brothers 2 for the NES was originally a game with different characters called Doki Doki Panic in Japan?

Jackie Kennedy tried to do the same thing
>>84608312
>Preacher might work better if you read it monthly instead of in one big hit
I understand what you mean by engaging in comics in the serialized fashion they're printed. I do feel that for some comics you can just go back and read a section you enjoyed because you read it in a weird monthly partition.
The thing is, Preacher was shit. It doesn't matter how you go about reading it, many issues that capped off a sub-plot were fucking stupid and most things ended in a tepid "Jesse comes out on top - kinda". Preacher was like a half-baked Hellblazer except instead of exploring the weird cosmic power like Hellblazer does, Preacher wields the fantasy elements in a way that only a first-timer to the bizarre would find refreshing - like how the Cthulhu mythos is the first exposure people have to "cosmic horror", it's pretty fucking shit but because it was your first it has that first-time appeal.
A guy gets a dick carved onto his head, a guy gets ass-fucked, Jesse fucks Tulip, kill everyone who tormented you in your childhood, annihilate an entire secret society and kill retard-jesus and secret-pope, the saint shoots up shit, the saint kills god.
There's just nothing satisfying about these conclusions. You just can't fucking relate to Jesse or Cassidy at all. It's just a pile of some of the craziest shit you can imagine to a pile of the most unsympathetic characters ever.
Preacher is not dated by the times - you could still tell engaging stories relevant to 90s pop culture, the Vietnam war, punk music, conservative Christianity, and everything else in the story without needing to read that story during the 90s. The thing is, Preacher didn't integrate the imagery to the stories in any relevant way. Ennis just used it as a cheap writing technique to appear topical - just like a lazy writer today would introduce a suicide bombing plot to engage retards who can't think outside the present.
