Just watch Kitchen Nightmares UK and compare with the US diarrhea. It's exactly like OP describes. Uk version is basically a docu drama, US version is full of stupid loud music, stupid OFF VOICE in case you can't follow the action + it tells you what to think, cuts constantly for no reason, ads all the time=more loud music + off voice reminding you in case you forgot during the cut. So cringe.
