Fireplace has bits that irritate me but the story is largely enjoyable, and all his tropes are compressed into one episode rather than stretched across 7 years

Blink is overrated but loads of fun

They're exceptions to the 'norm' in RTD's era. I don't like Silence in the Library tho because of irritating characters, River being annoying as fuck, the 'tropes' Moff had shown before were suddenly just being recycled, and I found it to be shitly directed to boot *shrug*

Just finished watching Into The Dalek, and yeah, another episode where Capaldi is written more like House. Brilliantly arrogant, dismissive of Clara, but still needs her as a moral compass. The Doctor tried to save the day with "Love" but not in a literal sense that Love Can Conquer All as what's been done lately.

So, funny story. I had only watched Rose and wasn't totally hooked by it, so that was my only Who experience back then. Around the olympics time, Fear Her was free on itunes because, you know, the olympics, so I decided to give Who another shot and watched it. I really enjoyed it and thought it was interesting and I loved The Doctor in it, and so I went back to watch The End of the World or whatever s1ep2 was and that finally was also good so I really got into from there and I finished the whole series after.

Now that I look back, maybe Fear Her wouldn't have made such an impression on me if 10 wasn't particularly different the way he was just for that episode.

The only downside is, sometimes that episode was the only thing I had on my mobile device to pass time on commutes. And I didn't know better. So now I have the entirety of Fear Her practically seared onto my memory.

Completely disregarded any of Simm's characterisation in RTD's stories, removed any character development, and turned the Master into some generic incompetent moustache-twirling cartoon villain. He was about as menacing as Shredder from the 80's series. Petulance and narcissism drove RTD's Master, he was vengeful and vainglorious. In WEAT/ TDF, he's just evil because he's evil. "Grounded" means relatable and realistic. So what's grounded about this manscara-sporting clown? What's relatable, or even comprehensible, about his motives? When you say "grounded", you just mean "subdued" or "sober", but first of all, that's incorrect, because he wasn't, he was shallow, quipping caricature, whose excessive cruelty was simply a function of the plot, but in any case feral Master was more interesting, and more relatable, than this fucking pantomime dross(elmeyer). The Master in RTD was on the verge of madness, with a body badly malfunctioning, he actually had a reason to act the way he acted.

Boardie here returning from a few days ago. Thanks to whoever told me about the other animated reconstructions. Been having fun with them, didn't know they existed since the complete Who collection I watched some years back didn't have them, so at best it was the occasional still with the sound and I did the unthinkable and tended to skip stories with missing episodes because even though I listen to some Big Finish, I'm not a fan of listening to things I'm supposed to be seeing.

Anyway, thanks again. The ones I found are still kind of fucked up because it looks like the non-restoration episodes are shitty VHS rips and not cleaned up DVD releases but I can live with potato quality.

I just finished rewatching AAISAT and as long as Moffat doesn't mess things up too much then we should have a great Christmas episode.
