It's pretty slow to get going which probably turned most people off, if they were coming off Gladiator and wanted a 20 minute opening battle sequence, and it doesn't work as a historical film as it skipped stuff like Thebes, Alexander's exile and the burning of Persepolis. So it's bugged at every level, only thing I can't criticise is Anthony Hopkins as Ptolemy.

Overall very mediocre film but it has some real moments of greatness. Soundtrack was great, production values/costumes were good and looked authentic - they definitely got the look and feel of the period just right. Battle scenes were spot on.

Fuck knows what he was thinking casting Colin Farrell and Angelina Jolie though. When Val Kilmer putting on a terrible Irish accent is actually one of the better performances in the movie you know something's wrong.

He is as boring and uninspiring as he is lecherous, corrupt and deceitful.
