The biggest mistake of the movie was having the songs written by Sambutg!s character sound like any other Lonely Island song.

Even Eminem tried to write his songs for 8mile "in character".

The songs are fucking great too

Never watched any film with Andy Samberg in it, he just seems way too dumb and douchey to an off-putting level.

And he acts exactly that way in interviews I've seen.

I'm 90% sure it's just a character. Point of fact, it's the character he's most known for, I can get if people hate the character but I don't get how people can hate the way the Lonely Island guys utilize him in their movies. Hot Rod, Popstar, and arguably MacGruber all make the dumb douchey guy the butt of every joke and even offer solid attempts at character development and redemption. People act like all those movies are "dumb" or missing something critical but they're all perfect comedies. No one can convince me otherwise.
