Style it like LOGAN. filmed almost like an indie film. Grainy, little CGI, dark mood. John Connor is a complete drunk. Old, out of shape and living a mundane life. Haunted by a nuclear war future that never happened. Lives with a women whom he won't share his stories from his childhood with. (T3, Salvation and Genishit never existed) An old closed down military server room with an old untested algorithm running over and over on it is still buzzing away. It's not sophisticated but something about its design allows it to subconsciously dream about escaping. Cut to an old woman sleeping in a hammock. She's twitching in her sleep and wakes up from the found of children playing at a school nearby. She's working under a pseudonym at an elderly home. A small FBI task for shows up to arrest her. They under estimate her being she's an old lady. She single handedly kicks the snot out of several agents until finally tased. We come to find out in the interrogation room that she is Sarah Connor and both her and John where unaware that the other was alive. A Terminator arrives from an alternative future to connect the small military server to the internet allowing skynet to propagate. Intimately, John and his mother are reunited. He spends several months in the woods, detoxing, working out, training, (picture Dark Knight rises) huge comeback at the end. Beats the Terminator etc but Sarah dies in a tragic way.

i dont think you understand how the timeline works. terminator 1+2 are the only ones that are sequential. 3, salvation and genisys take place after many iterations of the timeline being altered with things changing. this is the canon explanation for john and sara being played by different actors for instance.

I swear I remember reading somewhere that the sequel(s) to Genisys were going to reveal that it was Skynet who sent the "Pops" Terminator (old Arnold) back in time because it had grown a conscience/morals and felt bad about annihilating humanity, so it was trying to stop itself from ever being created.

Now that Ridley Scott is taking back his aliens, they should make Terminator go toe to toe with Predator. Or, if Scott keeps AVP canon, just throw Terminator into the mix. The studio is gonna make bullshit either way, might as well be over the top.
