Wasn't Freddie mostly seen on stage? I wasn't alive when he was around but I only ever see pictures or video of him on stage. With people like John Lennon, Mick Jagger, even Frank Sinatra (random examples) there seemed to be a lot of exposure to their off-stage persona. Not necessarily the 'real' person but still....

Unless you're a hardcore Queen fan I don't see why people would have an expectation of how Freddie would act behind closed doors and thus take issue with bugs performance. He only has to be super high energy and charismatic in short bursts.

I could be talking out of my arse, but I think he can pull off the more personal, troubled side of Freddie.

Sacha Baron Cohen pulled out because he wanted it to be an R-rated warts-and-all portrayal, while Brian May wanted it to be a PG-13 rated affair where Freddy's death happened halfway through the movie and the rest was about the band coping with the aftermath.

It's gonna be shit, OP. Sacha Baron Cohen wrote and did years of research on him but the band retconned the whole project as soon as they found out it's gonna be realistic. They wanted him to write the last half of the movie on how the "band" survived Freddie's death, making the movie a shameless promotion and exploitation of their band and Freddie's death.

So they replaced Sacha with Rami and Rami doesnt have the fame or balls to stand up to them.
