carrying a sword on your back was done, for transporting the sword.

if you were fighting. you had it on your waist or left the sheath with your squire well before the battle.

Billhooks were a multipurpose weapon. They could pierce mail and could dismount a horse. It only got phased out when Shot + Pike became popular.

>>84552271
MG42 being 'trash' is dependent on valuables. It had high ammo consumption. It had high barrel wear. It had regular jamming. It was inaccurate (but wasn't designed for anything other than suppressing). So in that way, it was bad. The Bren? The Bren's only downside was barrel wear in rough conditions and low capacity. Other than that, it was a well loved gun and French Resistance valued it over a MG42 any day. It was accurate as well. Britain didn't single-handedly win the war, but it did fight the longest and without the Intellgence and Lend-Lease to USSR, that could have fallen. The Churchill tank was the best infantry support tank, it was the most easy to modify (though the most variants was the Sherman and even some of those variants weren't great, only the Firefly was a dodgy variant).

I seriously doubt he outright makes these claims and you're spreading bullshit.

there are quite a few fighting styles that used elaborate movements to distract enemies from the real swings.

In a real fight you won't get close to someone spinning a sword like that, then when you are cautious and making mistakes looking for an opening, down comes the real movement.

a similar concept, by the looks of it. the simple fulcrum on the ground is used to launch the roughly cylindrical puck in the air (most likely operated by foot), and the dwarf proceeds to hit it whilst its in the air. it says weta workshop, so i guess it was mode for the hobbit movies (i only saw the first), so it's probably a projectile weapon and not a game, which is very stupid, but still. i guess the concept could work well as a game within the broader dwarven culture, perhaps with a more sophisticated launching mechanism to underline their interest in construction and machinery.

Using two swords is manageable if they're both short swords, like is done historically in places like China and the Philippines.

Using two full length swords was also done historically in Europe, though it was more of an exhibition/training thing than a practical thing.

Why is heavy armour not stated for the french?
Knights are the wealthiest guys on the battlefield, not everyone can afford an actual plate armour.

yeah but the hammer can both puncture armor, and more importantly, deliver blunt force, which is effective against any type of armor
>>84553106
if you think you need skill to swing a stick at someone you have some problem. If you'd want to be better at it you'd just need to learn conserving momentum, and that's basically swinging in a lying 8 figure, which you can learn in 5 minutes
>>
>>84554316
>Modern historians are somewhat divided on how effective the longbow fire would have been against plate armour of the time, with some modern texts suggesting that arrows could not penetrate, especially the better quality steel armour, but others suggesting arrows could penetrate, especially the poorer quality wrought iron armour. Rogers suggests that the longbow could penetrate a wrought iron breastplate at short range and penetrate the thinner armour on the limbs even at 220 yards (200 m). He considers a knight in the best quality steel armour would have been more or less invulnerable to an arrow on the breastplate or top of the helmet, but would still have been vulnerable to shots hitting the limbs, particularly at close range.
>>84554426
As the battle was fought on a recently ploughed field, and there had recently been heavy rain leaving it very muddy, it proved very tiring to walk through in full plate armour. The French monk of St. Denis describes the French troops as "marching through the middle of the mud where they sank up to their knees. So they were already overcome with fatigue even before they advanced against the enemy". The deep, soft mud particularly favoured the English force because, once knocked to the ground, the heavily armoured French knights had a hard time getting back up to fight in the mêlée. Barker states that some knights, encumbered by their armour, actually drowned in their helmets.

against cavalry in a charge. Not against knights. particularly if you lost formation and gets singled out. Anyway OP meant general battle, a low skill blunt force weapon would be the safest choice, at least it would be what I'd choose.

I don't know, i think if you send an untrained guy with a warhammer against an untrained guy with a pike, the pike guy will win.
But if you are talking about taking down an armored opponent on foot, the hammer would obviously be the better choice.

The Poles fought for a month, which was twice as long as France and the British, against both the Germans the Soviets, with no allies and while outnumbered in every conceivable category, then continued to fight for the rest of the war, only to be sold out to the Soviets (who took half the country and killed another 100K+ Poles) by crippled fuck FDR.

Meanwhile on the home front, the Polish resistance was killing 800-1000 Germans per month, right in the heart of the Nazi empire and did so with less than 100 tons of supplies dropped by the allies (the Geeks got 10,000 tons) and suffering brutal retaliations the whole time (more Poles were killed in the two months of the Warsaw Uprising then the U.S. total looses in the entire war).

And when the war was over, the Poles were banned from the victory parades so as not to piss off Stalin…

Might not kill the knight, but will almost certainly kill the horse. The French used heavy barding on their forlorn hope at Poitiers and the English repositioned and shot into their flanks to kill the horses.

Once the knights/men-at-arms are footslogging, they're vulnerable to a unlucky hit penetrating less protected limbs or gaps in the armour, and with the sheer number of arrows striking them, one is going to be a unlucky hit eventually.

Might also be hard to encourage men to plod slowly directly into a storm of arrows, knowing that every step gives the arrows more power, a flatter trajectory and brings you closer to the archers being able to target specific weak points, particularly if your less well armoured comrades, who are supposed to protect you from capture, are starting to fall.
>>
>>84555981

It would grand a great deal of agility.
