More like movies marketed like shit.
I remember watching the very first trailer and it made it look like a bourne type movie and I got hyped as shit then watched it and got really pissed of and dissapointed but the movie itself wasnt that slow and beautifuly shot.
Many people were tricked.

God, I was one of them. My whole family went to see this because we all had seen a single trailer (which made it out to be a Bourne-style movie but with Clooney. Whats not to love?). I can honestly say I've never been more disappointed in a theatre in my entire life. Even if it was a very pretty movie with an interesting ending, I have never been more bored. The whole film just follows Clooney's character moping around this boring fucking town and acting all depressed for like two hours, with a single action scene sprinkled in every forty minutes or so. Fuck this movie.

i liked it
it's always cool seeing a hollywood star act in a film that feels very anti-hollywood. instead of scenes showing the hitman killing people, he's stuck in italy and the film shows that he's sort of an autist. it's obviously trying to be like those old 70s character dramas (look at the poster design)
the only problem was it was marketed wrong. since the story had a hitman in it, they decided to sell it off as an action film.
any movie made past 1985

Yeah it's like Melville meets Bertolucci, but of course those points of references will be lost on pleb tier viewers that have never seen a movie before 1980.
It was surprisingly good.
And for what? A terrible ending that was entirely telegraphed.
