What do /wethink/ about this?

Is it kino?
>>
>>84520262
you can tell it's kino because no one comes here to shit on it.
>>
monarchist propaganda
>>
>not victoria
>>
i can't believe brits still have kings and queens lmao
>>
>>84521629
frankly this
>>
Is it just me who's strangely excited about the fact that in just a few years the Brits will be talking about the King and everyone talking shit about them will be bringing up The King rather than The Queen? It just feels like it'll be a momentous change, forever dividing generations and changing everyday expressions. Like being around for the end of Queen Victoria's reign, except to a lesser scale.

She's like the only royalty that matters to any degree in today's world.
>>
>>84520262

>>

>She's like the only royalty that matters to any degree in today's world.

The Kingdom of Saud would disagree.
>>
>>84528263
They only matter because they're rich off of oil not because of any royal lineage being respected. If we could pull it off we'd just kill them and put someone else in their place because royalty-wise they don't fucking matter.
>>
>>84528332
In resume, they do actually matter- and substantially.
But autismos have difficulties with definitions.
>>
>>84528421
He clearly meant mattering from a solely royal point of view you utter autist.
>>
>>84528454
Of course 'he' did
>>
>>84528421
No, autismos have difficulties with taking things too fucking literally, like you've done. The point was clearly that the queen is the only royalty that matters because of the prestige of the royal lineage itself, not because she's got more money or power than other royals.

When she dies it'll be written about across the world like the Pope dying. When some Saudi royalty dies all that'll happen is that there'll be a footnote in a newspaper, people will go "who the fuck's that?" and then his money will pass on to some other fucker.
>>
>>84528550
So in short, again, the conclusion is that they matter- and substantially, with power and money. Fascinating
>>
>>84528590
I hope you're being dense on purpose and that the people in your life don't have to suffer through you being like that all the time.
>>
Just a reminder that Matt Smith's cock is 5 inches flaccid, Claire Foy must've gotten a WHOPPER.
>>
>>84528649
I accept your admission of imbecility.
>>
>>84524407
The king of Jordan is from an older house that that is patrilinealy descended from the Prophet's daughter. His family governed Mecca and Medina for centuries before the Saudis jacked it.

The emperor if Japan is from the oldest royal house still in existence.
>>
>>84529141
And yet nobody who matters will care one wit when they die.

>What are the Scandinavian countries

Nigga I'm Scandinavian and not even I think our royals have any kind pop-culture power like the British Queen. None of those other royals do. They're only big in their own country.

Show people a picture of Queen Lizzy and people all over will recognise her. Show them a picture of any of the Scandinavian royals and they'll have no fucking clue who it is, beyond it being a dude in fancy dress. Hell, I wouldn't even reliably recognise the royals of the other Scandinavian countries, only my own. But I would recognise Lizzy and Charles etc.

It's the same thing as recognising Bush or JFK but not some president of wherever. In the country he was president in he's probably recognised, but people all over the world recognise JFK.

Sure, but saying the queen has by far the most fame is completely different to saying she's the only one with any at all.

If people in your own country know you, some people in the countries around you know you and people in the know in other parts of the world know you, you still matter.

You obviously took the original post way too literally.

She's like the only royalty that matters to any degree in today's world as in she's the only royalty that'll actually be mourned across the entire world when she goes. She'll probably be the last monarch to get that kind of reaction, as well. The entire commonwealth will have a mourning period, previous colonies will either mourn as well or celebrate, the rest of the world will have newspaper articles and commemorative shit made for her death and the subsequent coronation. We will be absolutely inundated in articles and documentaries chronicling her whole life.

That will NOT happen when one of the Scandinavian royals go. Outside of Scandinavia you'll be lucky with a front-page article on the day, unless they're killed in a terrorist attack or something.
>>
>>84534869

Because the amount of shit that would have to be done to uncouple a millennia of law and precedence, just for the sake of having a President instead of a Prime Minister is just not worth it. The queen's a figurehead, she doesn't cost us anything (and a lot less than getting rid of her would), so why fix what isn't broken
>>
>>84535451
The Queen has royal powers to claim any land in any of her sovereign nations. That includes 15 nations, such as Canada or New Zealand or Australia.

Until they become Republics, she can do what she wants. It is the ultimate deterrent for the government being a dictatorship. You swear an oath, when you join the military, to serve the ROYAL FAMILY, not the government. The government is a Royally mandated government, that exists purely because they allow it and it can be ended when they demand it. If the government did nasty shit that the Royal Family didn't like, the police force and military are, theoretically, obliged to follow the Royal Family. Which means, obviously, ending the government and reinstating the monarchy.

As someone who has our own King and Queen, I never quite understood why everyone always argues whether to keep them because of the president thing or to get rid of them to save money.

Why not just stop paying them such ungodly sums of money and throwing them out of the palaces or mansions that are renovated with taxpayer money, but letting them keep the title and thus keeping the prime minister part? Give them a salary on par with minimum wage or something. It's not like there hasn't been poor monarchs throughout history.

>The Queen has royal powers to claim any land in any of her sovereign nations

This is absolutely and unequivocally false, the queen is bound under the rule of law by precedence from the magna carta, she is therefore subject to acts of parliament that her and her predecessors have signed, and as parliament is the only body capable of expropriating funds and property since the glorious revolution, later codified in the 1689 bill of rights and reaffirmed by the courts, she cannot do what you have just described.

>Until they become Republics, she can do what she wants

False, she is immune from public prosecution as being the fount of justice but she cannot unilaterally make law in matters which have been established to be the preserve of her parliament and her ministers, and by convention the exercise of even unilateral law such as orders in council are made only by the advice of her prime minister.

> You swear an oath, when you join the military, to serve the ROYAL FAMILY, not the government

Indeed, but who gives the monarch the ability to have an army in peacetime? Parliament.

The idea that the monarchy is theoretically absolute is just simply false, it is under enormous de facto and de jure restraints.

She also has the royal power to immediately murder the prime minister and everyone in his party, and to appoint a giraffe as the new PM. If the queen decided to try and sell off a National Park in Canada, you can bet that Canada would be out of the Commonwealth before the end of the day, and in all likelihood the queen would be removed from power in a little while. The queen's authority only extends as far as a country wants, the government exists independently of the monarch and would obviously reject any decree made by the monarch that would piss off any significant number of people. Your delusional if you think the queen could order Australia or Canada to do anything and have them listen, or even that she could order the UK to do anything without immediately being ousted from even the position of a figurehead.

>>
>>84520262
No. There seem to have been about six different shows or movies about the Queen and the Royal Family in the last five years, and all of them have the basic problem that she's not the protagonist of her own story - no monarch has been for centuries. The dramaturgy involves people entering stage left like in a play and saying "something disappointing has happened, your Majesty" and her making a concerned face in response, then cut to some other action she wasn't present for because her entire existence is ceremonial.

Prince Charles could make a great movie, because he's eccentric, with specific and weird mystical and social beliefs. A thoroughly-researched film on him wouldn't have to be libellous to be a surprising, amusing watch. But nobody would want to make that, they're going for the same market that American products about British Royalty always aim at - those sick people who "admire" the Queen for some reason.
>>
>retaining power for 60years through careful non-exercise of it

Not to mention that all she really has to wait for is a despot to show up and try to seize power through political channels. Then she gets to swoop in as a saviour and rally the people behind her before assuming a bigger slice of power just because the people starts distrusting politicians, as opposed starting to distrust monarchs because she seized power.

The last real secret in British politics is what the Queen and the Prime Minister talk about each week. One of the only official meetings to have neither observers nor minutes taken, totally private.

For all we know the PM is a puppet and the Queen just tells them what they're going to do that week.
>>
>>84536132
She's popular as a celebrity and some sort of fantasy of years past. If she tried exercising her power then she'd lose all her support. I mean if one of the Commonwealth nations instituted a law that required Jews to go to concentration camps and she issued a decree against it then I'm sure the UK would back it, but at that point obviously the country in question wouldn't respect it.

Protestants did that, literally, it was protestants being ass-blassted that the King was Catholic, so they started a civil war, and invited a Dutchman to rule as King.
