What did Raimi mean by this?

The symbiote acts as a drug. Peter however lacks any deep hatred or evilness inside him and he simply becomes cocky while still being a dork. For the characterization of the symbiote you can see why its mad peter rejected it, they were like drinking buddies and peter decides to sober up and beat up his old pal when he comes for a round of drinks
