I know I'm an idiot, but honestly there was a split second near the end where I actually thought this was the end of Doctor Who and that the Christmas Special and Chibnall take-over were all a clever ruse.
The Master (well Missy) dying for good. The Doctor making his final stand as the place explodes in a huge blast of fire and he looks up and wishes there were stars.

If ever they wanted to end DW for good, that would be a great way to do it. The Doctor, dying, looking up at the sky, unable to see the stars he travelled through for decades.
Then drippy-wet-pilot showed up and I came to my senses.

I'm kinda pissed we're likely to not see any more of John Simm playing The Master. He really got the role perfect in this episode, even got the goatee and outfit right. Would've been fun to have Master and Missy jumping around the universe, occasionally popping up and spending too much time arguing to get anything evil done.

Kris marshal will not get 3 seasons. He is a short term Doctor. If the new format works they will rotate him for a non-male/non-white lead. He will probably do 1 season like Eccleston just to get the new format running before they experiment with casting too.

I'll be honest, I couldn't really remember the specifics of the first episode with pilot girl, so that whole section was a bit lost on me. I don't think it was the greatest idea to do a callback to there with no other mention in the whole of the series.

We definitely need new, elite monster races. Retire the Daleks etc. for a bit, let the 13th deal with new threats and keep the old hands for big moments.

Dropped the show long ago, saw the final two episodes to try and get back into it. What absolute shit it was, the doctor and friends conveniently find the things they need and the predictable ending created no tension with the characters. How did the doctor survive that blast with no limbs missing or his clothes burned off? Tennnant is the only best doctor who era this show is just sjw pandering.

I'm not even that mad about this. The shit with the pilot was dumb, but at least it gets Bill out of the picture and we can get a new companion for series 11. Only thing that really bothered me is how the regeneration has been handled the whole series. He's literally been holding it in for 8 episodes, and the only reason he didn't just finish the regeneration now is that the bbc wants to dick tease us. Christmas specials were a mistake.

As much as I wish they would stop having the Doctor getting all pissy and emotional over regenerating (9's was kino), the way this episode ended suggests to me that he'll be over it by the end of the Christmas special. So at least he won't go out whimpering like 10.

That being said, I thought the episode was a mess. Capaldi's speech and the Missy/Master ending were both great, but everything else was Hell Bent-tier. Especially Heather the all-powerful puddle showing up to save the day.

I know people like to hate on Bill for mentioning her sexuality all the time, but I liked the scene with the Doctor when they parted and she basically said "You know how I'm all into girls and people.....y'know..my age?"
Cheeky stab at the current fashion of companions falling in love with the Doctor all the time. For a moment, everyone's thinking "oh god no, don't do this, don't suddenly proclaim your love for the Doctor like all the other companions did". And then she just turns around and walks away like the lesbian we all know her to be.
I've liked how they handled Bill's sexuality this series actually. Many people thought it was too "in your face", but in reality there were actually some nice, funny moments where her "progressive lesbianism" was poked fun at or subverted. Like when she told the Romans and they were like "you ONLY fuck women? You're weird, we fuck everything". Same with the race thing, where she was called racist by the blue-skinned dude in Oxygen.

I think people here take it all too seriously. We got a black lesbian character and it's never been a major point of her character, just something to create funny or interesting situations or interactions.

Yeah, I think that's going to be the point of the Christmas Special. 1 and 12 meeting and eventually 12 will be over his problem of not wanting to regenerate and just wanting to die. In the end, he'll embrace it and get a graceful exit, unlike 10. I think we all know Moff's thoughts on 10's exit what with all the jokes in the 50th about "I don't wanna go..!"
I think we'll see something similar to Smith's regeneration. Accepting it, no hard feelings about it. I just hope we get a moment like Smith dropping his bow tie, but it's Capaldi playing his guitar one final time, knowing that his future incarnation might not have those skills. I'd also like his last words to be something along the lines of "I AM a good man", just to close the circle of his character arc which started with him doubting his personality.

I thought it would be crap, but hoo fucking boy was that shit. The way they "saved" Bill by having her fuck off into star eye's moistness was the biggest fucking cop out I have ever seen. She was in a single episode yet apparently her flying off into the universe with Bill is a good ending. Fuck off. Same shit he did with Clara, why can't he just kill people?

The master ending was, again, pretty shit. Because we know for a fact (s)he'll come back, furthermore how would a single blast from a lazer screwdriver kill a Timelord? They're supposed to be extremely difficult to kill, yet a single blast of his meme screwdriver kills her? Fuck off.

The Cybermen were fucking atrocious, absolutelyabysmal. I thought it would be bad but that was worse case scenario for me, not only did they barely feature but when they did it was solely to spit on their legacy, having Tenth Planet Cybermen with jet boots like fucking ironman.

What they did with Bill was good, but the way they did it was shit, having her appear as a human. Why? Just have her as a Cybermen but make her say emotional stuff, that simple. But then the retards wouldn't get it, I guess.

The regeneration start where they were all saying "Doctor" was good, but they ruined it by having him wake up and pull a Tennant.

Literally only lines I liked was when they said there was "less to throw away" when converting Children, and "take a good look at the face that isn't listening."

Cyber lazers out of the lamp instead of the belt was shit.

David Bradley still sounds NOTHING like 1, next episode is going to be tedious. They should have used McCoy, McGann, or dyed Tom's hair. Using replacement doctors just spits on the legacy, same reason I didn't enjoy the 5 doctors.

I think that Extremis was supposed to be a one-off episode with a different villain, which would end with the Doctor outsmarting the aliens at the last moment and saving the day. I heard that that was the original idea anyway. Pyramid and Lie of the Land would then have just been a two-parter featuring the Monks. I respect the hell out of David Bradley and I think he put in a good performance (though not an impersonation) in An Adventure in Space and Time, but I hate the muddying of an incarnation's legacy by bringing him back with a new face, despite face-changing being something of a big deal in Doctor Who.

And it's not like you really get to feel like those two Doctors are on screen together, because each incarnation has a face and the one we're getting at Christmas is not the face of 1. Imagine if, in Day of the Doctor, they couldn't get Tennant back so they just got some other guy to play 10. The excuse of the original actor being dead doesn't change the fact that the appeal of seeing an old and new Doctor on-screen together is lost when you recast.

The way I look at it. Simm represents the patriarchy and misogynistic men in general. Everything I'm reading here makes me glad I stopped watching years ago. A good companion written out with the same dead- no not really cop out as last series. The best version of the Master killed off. The Doctor limping around with a turtle's head of a regeneration for no reason, running into David fucking Bradley for no reason, not dying for no reason. Moffat's writing ability is completely fucking shot, by the sound of it - nothing good he comes up with gets taken forward properly anymore.

So was it just me or was this finale fucking terrible. And I mean REALLY bad. From the editing to the script it was all over the fucking place. I honestly had no idea it was a finale because of the pacing and shit. It didn't feel like there were any big stakes it didn't have a finale feel to it, or seem to have any tension at all.

The doctor's petty tantrum at the masters "NO when I say NO you look at me!" was just embarrassing. The mondasian cybermen getting upgraded to earth2 cybermen made NO fucking sense other than that the costume department had a ton of new suits for outdoor shots and mondassians for indoors or some shit.

The quality of these last few seasons has been all over the fucking place, and then that CRINGE "fan show" that I just watched for some reason explains that even though they have a year to get their shit in order they're editing episodes the day before they're getting sent out for effects and shit? What the fuck is going on?

And PLEASE tell me it's not confirmed that Chris from my family is the new doctor. I fucking hope chibnall pulls something out his ass better than what moffat's been dealing lately. He clearly doesn't give a fuck and it feels like he has a teenage daughter phoning scripts in for him.

The performances were good I'll give you that, I liked the masters vs and that was a pretty good mutual destruction bit, it was probably my favourite part of the episode. But the rest of it felt like it could have used another draft.

The flash forwards really killed it for me. You could feel like they really wanted some iconic shots, like cyberbill holding the doc coming out of the ship and crying over him in the ruined burnt out field and just sort of wedged them in storywise in order to get the visuals they were gunning for but it kept feeling like it was rushed and a bit low quality, like the writing really felt patched together.

It was nice seeing bradley as the doc and I really hope the christmas special is a bit of character development even though the plot is basically gonna be 12 living through his own christmas carol where he learns to get over himself and die so he can regenerate into a new doctor already.

I loved the call back to previous companions (and 5's regenerations) but the nostalgia trip made more sense for 11, being the last of the batch, and 12 started as Mr. I can't remember how to even fly the Tardis, so for him to remember all his companions and lives and THEN have the audacity to say he wanted to stop changing just seemed REALLY out of character, and a bit jarring. 11 should have had the nostalgia bait ending, but if they're gonna have 12 meet 1 and use 13 as the soft reboot I guess it makes sense?

As for Doctor meetups, I think the only reason not as many people are excited about this is because it's coming only three years after the Day of the Doctor. Usually Doctor meetups happen after a much longer timespan. I really hope they don't become something that happens every few seasons now.

I'm really glad they brought back Bradley though. Not only was he fantastic in AAISAT, I just think it's so cool that he'll have played both the Doctor and Hartnell himself.

But if they ever decide to bring back Two, I hope they stay the fuck away from pic related. Horrible.

I nearly dropped the show, that zygon two parter kept me in, then the one off time prison thing was great, followed by a crap finale. Bill's intro was great and she kept me in but this finale was bad man. Like really bad.

I'm watching christmas and giving chibnall a chance but I think the show might be done for me. I've never come this close to just dropping it and I've got all the BFs and a bunch of novels and shit. I'm invested. But maybe it's time to let the TV show pass me by.

Yes, but it's not nearly at the level of quality we should be at by now. Skip Knock-Knock, The Monks, and Gatiss' bowel movement, and you'll find something nearing Series 5 quality.

Bill is so much better than any of Moffat's characters. She's not amazing, but she's played by an actress with range and is a consistently written companion (for once).

I know I'm in the minority here, but I really enjoyed the finale almost entirely for Capaldi. I'm so fucking sick of Moffat that the main reason I watch anymore is for his Doctor, and honestly, I think this episode was among his performances as the character.

Almost everything else was whatever. Not terrible, but not really good either. Capaldi took it home for me though.
