No it got too wacky and bubbles oriented. And it was the same formula from 2 onward. Season long scheme of shitty plan to make money, get arrested. It was kind of funny in season 2 but it got old after that.

The Wire. There was a kind of magic to the first season that the other seasons didn't have. Season 5 was the closest in recapturing that I think.

I actually kind of understand where you're coming from. Season 1 had a more low-key, slice of life feel to it than the other seasons. It was good in it's own way, and because the formula was never repeated it is definitely the most distinct. But I'm not sure I would say it is better than 2.

I kind of disagree.
Gus was determined to kill Jesse. So walter sacrificed his good standing with Gus and endangered his own life by saving Jesse's by killing Gus's men.
This of course meant that Gus was gonna kill him, and Jesse when he could find him.
So it was either them or Gale.
If you had to kill an innocent to save your son or daughter, for example, would you do it? I assume so.

You and I both know what you would do if someone you cared about's life was in danger, and it took killing an innocent to save them. You wouldn't take a moment to get philosophical.
In any case, I don't see Gale as an more innocent than Jesse up to that point.
Walter, by doing nothing, would be standing by and letting others deal out death in judgement to someone who didn't deserve it (and that's forgetting his own life which would also be taken but maybe Walt wasn't as innocent because of Jane so I don't factor that in). The reality is, neither Jesse or Gale deserved to die, but one of then was going to, and seeing as there's no objective way to choose between them, you may as well go for the one you care about more, and that was Jesse for walter.
