Theatrical better than extended and why?

Maybe I should marathon the LotR trilogy today.

Because they were designed as actual films to be shown and watched in real theatres. The EE were DVD only Easter Eggs. Interesting for fans, but ultimately superfluous to the cinematic experience. It really throws off the pacing, especially in FotR, but who cares because it's like watching cool deleted scenes.

There were arguably only a few scenes that were unjustly cut from the theatrical edition. For example:

It was actually filmed as Aragorn fighting Sauron himself, but when they realized this didn't make sense they swapped him out for a troll.

Watched these for the first time last night, extended. God did the ending make me cry like a bitch. Pretty good movies.

Witch King is the most rad motherfucker around, I swear to god. Sauron's followers in general were fucking fantastically designed.

I can see where the suits were coming from but I'm glad Jackson won out, it would sort of diminish Sauron's presence a bit, but I feel like they should've got a better replacement, like the Mouth of Sauron or one of the Nazgul
