I think it works well as a metaphor for the medical industry. Give a rowdy child Ritalin, anti psychotics, or Ludovico, it blocks the behavior for a while and then it all comes crumbling down because it doesn't fix the root of the problem.
I sincerely doubt this was on anyone's mind while making the book or the film, but it still connects well. And I doubt Alex was faking it, he tried to commit suicide from the stress.
What was up with Alex's lawyer?
