Like the other anon said, Gremlins 2 is fun but good for a different reason (a lot of zany silly shit happening, like the Gremlins singing New York New York). I prefer the first because it's darker in tone, and much meaner in spirit - killing Santa, old ladies, dead bodies stuffed in chimneys! Man, what great stuff for a kid's movie!

I was surprised though at how much I enjoyed G2 when I saw it finally earlier this year. It's a lot of fun and the new designs are great. Plus, fuckin' Slayer while the Spider Gremlin is created.

Both amazing films.
1 is 50% Dante, 50% Spielberg. Has the best of both.
However 2 is 100% Dante, pure meta horror cartoon kino. Unthinkable nowadays.
