Pull out his pins and make him look in the mirror. He will then realise that he is an ugly, old, bald man who has wasted his adult life listening to Marilyn Manson and wearing edgy goth clothes. Make him get a job waiting tables and tell him to grow the fuck up.

If you read the comic he was actually a good guy all along.

He sees far more horrible humans than you can imagine and has to punish them accordingly. If you saw all the vile shit that humans do to each other of course you'll give them the most horrific punishment possible.

Pinhead did nothing wrong.

The second film is worth watching for a number of reasons.

-It is worth the price of admission (or nowadays, your time spent) for one /extremely/ striking sequence which happens early, and which has since entered the cultural consciousness. When you see it, you'll know. This sequence continues one trope which is used noticeably in other great horror/thriller films, particularly the Exorcist.

-it plausibly continues events immediately after the first film, and was made shortly afterwards, with the essential cast still intact.

-You know that white guy who plays the incompetent commander in Aliens? He has a supporting role in this flick too. The more you know about your minor character actors.

-a number of parts in the second film really are metal/brutal as fuck. You get real psychological gore in this flick. There are times when, just like with the first one, you marvel that they actually released this thing in theaters thirty years ago before torture-porn was common.

-Even though it has shoddy production values, and a few laughable/cringey sequences, the sequel does usefullly expand on the basic ideas and mysteries of the original. We get to see what this "Hell" actually is, and wander around in it. It's a very ambitious vision of Hell, actually. I struggle to think of another film which gives a more compelling vision of what Hell (or something as close to it as makes no difference) /is actually like/.
>>
>How do you stop him
Depends. Pretty sure you just close the box most of the time.

If it's Pinhead from the books, you're fucked. Regardless of how you feel about Scarlet Gospels, his introduction there is to torture porn the shit out of some highly trained and experienced magic users.
>>

That's not because of anything that he really did during his brief stint as a cenobite. Leviathan simply decided that it really really liked his personality and backstory, and thought that he'd be a great hire to become an arch-cenobite (interest in the occult, demands to know at all costs, makes his living probing brains, cutting people up, keeping some in rubber rooms where their own brains torment them, and even offers a human sacrifice by way of getting in. Leviathan really likes this guy, yep).

But then Kirsty tricked the other cenobites by reminding them of their humanity, causing them to dispatch each other and cheating them all. So Leviathan was even MORE impressed with Kirsty's success in cheating its minions on multiple occasions, a level of ingenuity almost unheard-of in humans. So in the lower-canon stuff Kirsty eventually becomes an even more badass cenobite herself. It's all about who finds favor with Leviathan, whose eternal throb has a significance of its own.

/tv/ regularly has constructive discussions about Hellraiser (I regularly participate in them). You just have to give it a few weeks at a time, since it's an old property, there's only so much content, and the content that people really care about is pretty limited itself (the first two movies and anons variously pick-and-choose from among the later flicks).

I sort-of want to watch some of the later flicks because I'm jonesing for more content but every one says they're generally awful. I saw the third one on TV once or twice as a kid and even I could tell that it was just getting silly, now. the future-setting of hte fourth is ridiculous but it does some nice backstory on the box at least.

Also the wire twins are hot but I've never seen anything past the fourth flick.

Okay anon. Please give me a (You) after I've gone over it.

See this screenshot? It's from the beginning of the very first movie - Frank Cotton buys the box during a furtive meeting in a cafe with the puzzle-keeper. Now, at the end of the movie, we see the /exact same frame/, just Frank is replaced with a shadowy figure with a big nose and curly hair. The point of the coda is that the cycle repeats, giving the tantalizing probabability of a sequel which is so important in horror flicks.

In a sense, "the second customer" is beside the point. The point is that /the cycle continues dude/. But wait a minute.

Take a good look at the light-skinned black doctor who appears in the middle of the first movie, played by Raul Newney. Curly hair, big nose. He /gives the box back to Kirsty/.

The point being that this minor doctor chaaracter /had the box in his own possession/ just long enough to get curious about it, to maybe get obsessed with it, to seek it back out, and then...

My theory is two parts: this minor doctor character /is/ the second customer, and the /extra/ is actually also portrayed by Raul Newney. I have never been able to corroborate the second, but even if the second isn't true, it doesn't invalidate the first idea, which has solid ground in the film.

It also beautifully foreshadows how the "doctor" in the second film is the obsessed guy who goes looking for the box. Moreover, the hospital room sets in both films are similar, suggesting similar spaces, functions, etc.

Much of this is probably accidental (and unintentional on the filmmakers' part in-the-moments) , but I like how this little idea really ties the room (the first two movies) together.

I only saw the first 2 movies and read The Hellbound Heart. I never got the feeling that Cenobites were evil like other horror creatures. They simply exist for what they are.

Somebody once explained to me that "demons to some, angels to others" depends on what sort of human summons them. To innocents like Kirsty or the psychiatric girl, they're inhuman monsters from hell. Meanwhile to psychos, Cenobites must appear to be these divine sources of depravity.

I never saw the other films because I heard they tried too hard in making the Cenobites into icons like Freddy or Jason. They're aspects of the universe; sadistic in their activities but neutral in outlook. They simply appear because they were summoned.
>>
>>84475644
this is, well, interesting. thanks for typing out lad, have another well earned (You)!
>>
>>84476186
The third one, even though many shit on it, bad writing and some retarded scenes outside, is quite fun and Pinhead carries the film. It has some neat ideas that are overshadowed by it's cheesiness, but it's worth the watch for Bradley himself. I'd also suggest seeing the entire franchise, just so you can see how it all went to shit and beyond for yourself. It's absurd and a bit funny, as well.
>>
>>84476186

I find it interesting that you limit your interpretatation of the cenobites' victims to humans alone.

From a young age, I always took the "demons to some, angels to others" line, especially with the announcement that they are "explorers" to suggest the slight possibility that they've tapped into other beings apart from humans - some depraved race of extraterrestrial ultra-masochists somewhere, somehow, who welcome being taken into their slavery... IMO this idea lends weight to the "tired worldliness" which is captured in the Grand Entrance in the film: "we've gotten our dicks wet with blood millions of times, not just here either, we're so bored. We are a machine. We will keep going and some like it and some don't and it don't matter."

Of course there are plenty of masochistic humans but it is difficult to imagine the human who would be contended to really be in such a hell for eternity. On the other hand, Frank's dialogue in the original suggests that he is driven to a transcendent madness which masochistically accepts his destroyed fate. Of course, this is a "sick" pleasure along the lines of what the creatures suggest.

My biggest problem with McFarlane is as soon as you would open a figure they literally fell apart in minutes. It happened to all of my Movie Maniac figures. Mike Myer's head broke off, Edward Scissorhand's scissors broke off, Candyman's hook broke. They were so horribly cheap, when you gazed into them they shattered.

I hear you, at the cost of being labeled a toyfag, I opened these ones and they had all kinds of shit break on them, I bought a second set cheap on ebay and never opened them. Mcfarlane is a total douche.
