Watchmen is the ultimate proof that Lovecraft is unfilmable. The squid would have been the perfect tech demo for a Cthulu monster, and all it would have had to do was show up for a few seconds and squirm around before dying, but not even that could be done.

Dude, the reason why the squid wasn't done in Watchmen is because of everything leading up to that moment (the artists island, etc). Not because it's too hard on a technical level.
