No he wouldn't and I love the guy. If you watch Luther, Prometheus, Pacific Rim and even his role as Heimdall ... he's too disjointed to be Bond. A little crazy, too emotionless to too emotional which is a range Bond never has. Daniel Craig's Bond is emotionless but if you go back through older versions of Bond ... his acting style just doesn't fit. Luther losing it over his wife... Pacific Rim and his speech, he's too over the top for Bond. Bond never loses his cool... Idris Elba wouldn't be able to 'act' into that style imo. Some of Elba's best performance's are from when he is very emotional in his role.

Not posh enough to be bond of the films, is good at playing outsiders but doesn't have the polished, reserved and hollow charm of the film bonds.

Harry palmer is an outsider in class terms and treated as such sometimes, he is a man of the world, classy but sometimes deshevelled and gets beaten up and sold out etc in his films. He is much closer to elba's luthor type character than a bond.

The ipcress file also BTFOs almost any bond film in terms fo shot composition and general film making for that era imo also.
