T2: Trainspotting

Really liked it. I liked that it was openly nostalgic and the characters even referenced their own nostalgia for their adventures in younger days. That's how 40-somethings really are when they see their old friends, it made sense.

First one was better, second was still a satisfying sequel. Too many references to the first film though, especially that hamfisted monologue

Really hoping they keep most of the cast for T3: Rise of the Machines

I thought they were both pretty great. And I think I just managed to get the proper viewing context. I'm 33 and despite never being as degenerate as they were in the first film, I still got to experience the fun of a non-straight-edge youth. I'm married with a kid on the way now though, and the autists can talk shit all they want but the 10 years of difference in headspace from when I saw the first and seeing this one is massive, and imo is the whole point of the film in it's way. You gotta have something wrong with you if you have a time and headspace difference like that between the movies and you honestly don't recognize T2's melancholy as profound. Or you saw Trainspotting when you were 12 and you're 22 watching T2 now which is what I really think is happening.

Massive, massive, massive fucking fan here. Like, I may have seen T1 30 times and that is modest. I fucking love the characters, the fashion, the sets (oh my god they are so good) , the music. It all jives perfectly in such a cozy way.

T2 was a great sequel. I was really worried about it for a long time and when it came to seeing it I almost didn't go but man, it was worth it. At first I was shocked with the style change but as I got used to it I really fell in love with the nostalgic aspect and the overall more positive vibes this film carried. I am glad they used more from the books as I love those as well.

man, i'm with you. ever since i'm 14 i watched Trainspotting numerous times and loved the book, Irvine Welsh's other stuff is cool too. now that i'm 25 T2 really hit that nostalgia mark for me, of course i'm in a different place than the characters in the film bit the feeling of the fast passage of time is something you can slowly feel when you're starting to get to get to 30. just like renton i abandoned all my friends from my teen years because i reslized that they were a destructive influence in my life that prevented me from developing myself and was happy to get away from them at that time. now after i haven't seen most of them for seven years i wonder where they are now and if they're still mad at me for cutting off all contact. i genuinely want to see them again but i'm feeling too much guilt to recontact them.

When you get to my age your heart starts to misbehave and then you have no choice but to ease off of the good times.
