The original lineup made perfect sense since the three protector monsters were supposed to be these earthly underdogs who take up the fight against Godzilla despite the odds. Right now Legendary/Warner Bros are doing a good job at keeping the films spaced out and not over saturating things. I'm not sure how many kaiju films western audiences can stomach before being burnt out.

2017 Kong: Skull Island
2019 Godzilla: King of the Monsters
2020 Godzilla vs. Kong

It seems they're keeping their future options open with the films having subtitles. If they chose to pursue four more films I would expect one starring Kong and one starring Godzilla. They could try to bring in Mechagodzilla controlled by Monarch. Maybe King of the Monsters makes King Ghidora really popular and stars in a film. They could then do a Destroy all Monsters type movie. By that point it will be around 2030 and unless the films are really turning a large profit I don't see them continuing.

In my eyes anything beyond a second phase would require Legendary getting the rights to Gamera and/or Ultraman. Even then only hardcore fans would care about those additions.
