It's pure kinomedy.

It's a movie that you had to grow up watching. I dragged my mom to take me to see it in theaters and she thought it was unbearable.

I'm positive if I saw it for the first time today, I'd probably dislike it. The fully original stuff like the opening and the CGI cow fight are pretty bad.

It's a very particular kind of humor. There are some undeniably bad parts (the opening with the baby, and the cow fight), but there are also some great bits of dialogue that remind me of the old Zucker + Abrahams spoof comedies. Steve Oedekerk is the kind of guy who has funny moments but is so completely unsure of his own skill that he is hit and miss.

Basically the funniest parts of Kung Pow were mostly done through dubbing. All the jokes that were applied to the footage hit the nail on the head.

But his sense of physical humor was completely off and retarded. I'm talking shit like the random CGI whale, the entire cow fighting scene, the random ass green snorkle creature. The Tongue, the French aliens.

That same level of "Is this supposed to be a joke?" seemingly dominated all his thumb films.

I think he simply never realized that he had a knack for doing dub spoofs of old movies and should have applied that formula to other things. He could have done the actor-editing if he wanted, but ultimately the humor comes from the dub.
