(...) is on tube TV in livingroom. (...) now we enter the film and it becomes the reality. Cole has a dream of speaking with Monica Bellucci in a side walk cafe in Paris - they are discussing "We are like the dreamer who dreams - then lives inside the dream." and then Monica asks Cole "Who is the dreamer? Whose dream are we living in?" He says "Cooper was there with me but I couldn't see his face." (We see only the back of Cooper's (...) wearing his black suit.)

>man and woman talk about living inside dreams while sitting at streetside cafe in paris

Daily reminder that the series is going to end with an absurdly blatant Inception ripoff.

you're clearly not a musician. Hendrix was a great songwriter (Wind Cries Mary, 1983, Long Hot Summer Night, Spanish Castle Magic, Little Wing, If 6 Was 9, Castles Made of Sand, Bold As Love, Love or Confusion, etc.) and an even better guitarist. Band of Gypsys, Live at the Fillmore East, and Machine Gun: Fillmore East 12-31-1969 demonstrate Hendrix's unrivaled rhythm, chops, and knack for improvisation. Those 3 live albums show a mature Hendrix displaying skill and genius in the innovation of the guitar tone.

The fact that so many books still name the Beatles as “the greatest or most significant or most influential” rock band ever only tells you how far rock music still is from becoming a serious art. Jazz critics have long recognized that the greatest jazz musicians of all times are Duke Ellington and John Coltrane, who were not the most famous or richest or best sellers of their times, let alone of all times. Classical critics rank the highly controversial Beethoven over classical musicians who were highly popular in courts around Europe. Rock critics are still blinded by commercial success. The Beatles sold more than anyone else (not true, by the way), therefore they must have been the greatest. Jazz critics grow up listening to a lot of jazz music of the past, classical critics grow up listening to a lot of classical music of the past. Rock critics are often totally ignorant of the rock music of the past, they barely know the best sellers. No wonder they will think that the Beatles did anything worthy of being saved.

red room scenes from the original series were the ground zero of fucking up television.

but the closest is probably St. Elsewhere, the finale of which broadcasted in 1988 and left on the twist that the whole show was a fantasy that took place in an autistic boy's snowglobe.

It actually sounds very Lynchian, but I guess the execution was more gimmicky than actual art:

>Author Cynthia Burkhead explains that with this final shot, "St. Elsewhere managed to take the idea of a dream and alter it just enough, putting it in the imagination of an autistic boy," and surmises that an ending constructed in this manner "reminds viewers that the fiction they have watched for six years is actually fiction within a fiction, occupying a second level of unreality, one level beyond the space of illusion filled by all narrative television."

Fly isn't experimental, it exists out of a necessity to stay on budget. That episode is only "unconventional" because it had to be, and it isn't great either, it takes way too much time for that episode to get interesting.

Lynch isn't some gimmick and "art-house" television doesn't exist out of gimmicky expierments, there are shows that does "weird" but they do it for that express purpose, it isn't honest experimentation that has something to say outside of "This is the episode where we did the weird thing, and that weird thing is the point of the episode"

There is nothing on tv like even the season 2 finale of Twin Peaks, much less Part 8 of Season 3.

>>84399590
Nope. one of the biggest surprises of the episode is how much *new* lore it introduces.

The closest thing people have found, apart from Log Lady's husband being a potential Woodsman is that a massive fire engulfed Twin Peaks during its early logging days and 8 residents were known to have been burned alive. In the Convenience Store scene there are only ever 8 Woodsmen.

Could be a coincidence, but who knows.
>>
>>84399697
Yeah that's why I didn't really think it fit, it was just a bottle episode. Albeit one that was maybe a bit gutsier than most shows would manage.

I get what you're saying, and I don't for a second think Lynch went out of his way to be really 'out there' for the episode, but I was just curious for examples because people keep saying ep 8 wasn't that surreal for a single TV episode but I'd argue it really was.
>>
>>84399207
Fly is a great episode but it's a standard 'stuck in one location' deal, it's happened in sitcoms for like 30 years.

Hell I honestly think the episode "Charlie Work" of Always Sunny is more impressive because 15 minutes or so of that is one unbroken shot roving through several rooms with shit changing off camera.

They're just contrarians that thinks people say it as some kind of pretentious mark of quality for the show to feel superior to others.

But that certainly isn't why I make the claim that it is the most art-house thing that has ever been aired on television, I also don't think that is a mark of quality either. I mean to me personally the episode was effective and will go down as one of the most memorable things I've ever seen on TV probably. But just speaking in terms of what that episode was, removed from whether I liked it or not, I have never seen anything like it and I know for a fact that there are no shows out there doing anything close to it.

That may sound like appraisal, but I feel like the two are different talking points, you can make that statement without believing it is the greatest thing to have ever aired on tv.

so the atomic bomb created the black lodge and the black men which are the evil spirits that surround the black lodge taking over people with the bugs that go into people's mouths. This is how leland was controlled as well. They knew back in the 40s thay laura palmer was essential to their takeover of the world, but coop stopped them which is why the black men created BOB, and dopplecoop.

I didn't care for episode 8. It felt overly drawn out. I didn't like Bob's origin, because bombs don't have some kind of mystical meaning to me. It did nothing to actually explain anything on the show's events, or why an atomic blast would be relevant to anything else in the show. I'm not sure why people loved the episode. To me, it felt like Lynch took a bunch of ideas he had for a separate short story/film and stuffed it into Twin Peaks.

Nothing feels like it's actually connecting in a greater sense. You can make sense of some of Lynch's work in great detail, but this just feels like random shit that is not fitting together properly. You can say I'm not thinking deep enough or whatever, but does anyone legitimately have any actual answers for what ANY of this shit is supposed to even mean or what significance any of it has? Because I feel like he's just jerking my fucking dick around, and I'm not liking the direction the series is going at this point.

I see it more as: The atomic bomb registered the first time we were, as a species, capable of near-genocide from a distance.
No need for thousands of armed men to wage war anymore. Just fly a plane over and drop a bomb and the death count is in the hundreds of thousands.

The gaining of the ability to so quickly dole out mass cruelty as well as dissociate from it so much had broken some previous limit of the evil humans are capable of and unleashed the Lodge spirits.
