Why doesn't the Republic have a standing army? It took like 20 pilots and a literal child to completely dismantle the Trade Federation's army. They have enough forces to occupy a planet, that's it. The Galactic Republic is thousands and thousands of planets. A planet or two allied to Naboo couldn't have sent ships and blown them the fuck out?
