It's so satisfying when shit just clicks. It's my favorite modern trailer trope (music synced to fast cuts of action) stretched to an entire movie.

There's some not-so-groovy moments where the music takes a back seat to the dialogue, and while it's great dialogue I sorta lost interest. Also, Debora isn't strong enough as a character to justify half the shit that Baby does for her.

Scott Pilgrim is the only Edgar Wright movie I've disliked. It was overacted, overproduced, overdirected and over marketed to the point where it completely bored me. This is nothing like that. There was a couple rough edges like a corny Sky Ferreira cameo / song but other than that it was really fun, and felt like it had some real soul in it. It feels very Edgar Wright because he does it in all his movies but it's a lot more consistent given the plot relevancy and there are only a few scenes without a song playing or his headphones in. My favorite example is probably that early long take of Baby going to the coffee shop, where he's dance-walking down the street and certain words from the song appear perfectly timed behind him in the forms of graffiti and advertisements. It's highly engaging, I'll definitely give it that.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who felt this way. She had no motivation or character outside of being his dream girl.

I also thought Darling walking into a police blockade guns blazing when they all clearly had superior numbers and firepower was out of character and a lazy way to kick the real climax into gear. She had no reason to pull that stunt, she could have just hopped behind the car like Buddy and taken cover, then had her little "badass" moment without getting shot for no reason. She had to have known she would get killed but why would she want that?

It was a kinda cheap way, but it fits with the character imo, along with her relationship with Buddy: she's the outspoken passionate type, while Hamm is the calculating silent dude (in many ways Baby's equal). In a sense you could see that as a sacrificial moment, buy Buddy some time.
