I'm sad /tv/. There's nothing even close that resembles No Country for Old Men out there in terms of aesthetic and quality. Can /tv/ recommend me anything that I will enjoy, preferably Neo-Western?

You're welcome
>>
A Place Beyond the Pines, maybe?
>>

>>
>>84370161
>>84370168
It's nowhere near NCFOM. It's a pretty mediocre film really.

OP I would say There Will Be Blood. It's maybe a bit longer and "drier" but it's a masterpiece.
>>
As far as "neo-westerns" I really enjoyed Inglorious Basterds for that, but its not 10/10
>>
>>84370168

>>

I've never heard these two uttered in the same sentence, ever.
>>

>getgood.exe/nigga

What didn't you get? Did you not understand the themes, or was it the ending that threw you off? Not talking shit, I just get a little sad inside when people say they don't get it. Maybe try reading the Cormac McCarthy novel of the same name, it's one of my favorites.
>>
>>84370828
Which movies do you mean? Either way you should probably rewatch it, and spend some time reflecting on it. In my opinion what makes a great movie, is the ability to provide new perspective both through time and rewatches. Will probably get flamed for this post tho lol
>>
>>84370928
>>84370933
I meant both There Will Be Blood and No Country for Old Men. Maybe I'm too much of a pleb and expected more entertainment; I'd like to think I got the themes but maybe not.
>>
>>84371055
No Country for Old Men wasn't entertaining enough for you? Aw jeez.
>>
>>84371055
I think the main theme in NCFOM is the pointlessness in trying to understand evil, and also the difficulty in understanding the world and it's development. TWBB is more of a character-study, showing a psycho, bitter man who can't connect with people, trying in his own way to show that he doesn't need to, but it's been a while since i've seen that one actually. That movie is not so much about the inherent meaning as it is just a beautifully made film in every way. You can't go into that on expecting just entertainment though, more fascinated/intrigued maybe.
>>
>>84370134
I think most Coen Brother films come damn close to NCFOM. That film wasnt an accident. Their version of True Grit might scratch your itch.
>>
Blue Ruin
Out of the Furnace
Cold in July
Hell or High Water
In the Electric Mist
>>
>>84370211

>>
OP watch Justified. The tv show. It's full of stuff you will love. The first season is mostly stand alone episodes but everything else is heavily serialized

I endorse this statement entirely. If you have 2 1/2+ hours to kill There Will Be Blood is a worthy film. However if you want that mood condensed NCFOM is the king.
>>
True Detective is bizarrely similar, I mean they even use a bunch of the same actors. As far as slow, intense movies, Zodiac is pretty impressive. Drive also is up there for me, but far less well written. The Place Beyond the Pines is also pretty good.
>>
>>84371832
This OP, justified is easily one of the best shows out there imo. Espically if you want a neo western.
>>
>>84371646
Ah, Blue Ruin. I liked it. Liked Green Room better though. Out of the Furnace and In the Electric Mist sound vaguely familiar but I know nothing about them. Are they really good?

Shit was so intense. Definitely a movie that should be watched in theaters
>>
>>84373059
I really liked it but honestly it's just not as rewarding as NCFOM. It lacks depth and doesn't make you reflect/think about the events. It definitely "scratches the itch" but you probably won't be coming back to it or watching it again any time soon.
>>
>>84371832
You know, I was thinking about starting Justified recently. Is it a truly great series?
>>
>>84372013
Yeah I can definitely agree with that. I loved Sicario too, one of my top 5 movies that year.
>>
>>84372176

Drive? Nah, not similar to me at all. Completely different vibe.
>>
Nocturnal Animals
>>
>>84373396
I watched the first seasons and I thought it wasn't as good as people said. Now people will say that S1 was serialized and the show drops that afterwards but I doubt that it would improve it much for me. There's just something about its tone that makes not so great for me. People suggesting it if you like NCFOM are really overselling ir.

It is but it's not No Country tier

My thoughts:

---The Proposition---
---Bone Tomahawk----
---The Salvation---

Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
Ronin
Road to Perdition
Place Beyond the Pines
Lawless
There Will Be Blood
Blood Diamond

Not him, but I don't understand why they had such an open-ended... ending. I enjoyed how the decision-making through the movie is really well made, but I can't understand the sudden shift in perspective to Tommy Lee Jones character in the end. In fact, everything from the moment the final shootout near the pool happened turned me off. I don't get what's up with the two dreams either.

>tfw too pleb
>>
>>84373654
>Bone Tomahawk
Could've been kino with a bigger budget
>>
>>84373714
It's not that you're missing something, it's that you are expecting a formulaic narrative
>>
>>84370134
Yeah, seconding, thirding, fourthing etc. There Will Be Blood. Blue Ruin and Hell or High Water are pretty good. Assassination of Jesse James is great.
>>

>>
>>84373780
>Blue Ruin

This was mentioned a couple of times, why? It's good but it didn't feel like NCFOM.

If Blue Ruin is eligible then The Drover might be good. Also The Way of the Gun.
>>
>>84373892
I meant The Rover.
>>
>>84373654
Dunno about Proposition or Salvation. Bone Tomahawk was ok, it had some really interesting elements going for it. Sadly, the pacing kind of sucks and it's overly long. Definitely worth a watch though.

As for that other tier, the only one I haven't seen is Lawless. At first I thought there was nothing really similar about these in relation to the thread but I see it now. They are decent, all within the 7-9/10 range. Sadly, NCFOM is a 10. I should just come to terms with the fact that nothing will ever top it. Seeing it in theaters was one of the greatest cinematic experiences of my life. Chills thinking about it to this day.
>>
>>84374035
The Proposition delivers on all levels, did you not see it or did it just not work?

It has the actors, set, cinematography and score - those piece make up such a great support for the simple yet ambitious story, it's not just thematically rewarding but also clever.
>>
>>84370134
Really your best bet is the Coen's other films, particularly their earlier crime films which share NCFOM's nihilism. They have a remarkably different aesthetic to No Country but narratively are just as deft and deal with similar themes.
>>
Am I dreaming? A /tv/ thread that is discussing movies in a civilized manner? I don't believe it
>>
>>84373768
Llewelyn is such a smart protag that I really wish he makes it. I can live with the doubt when it's a meh-ish MC, but I actually admired every single decision he made.

No Country brings out the best qualities of anon, also it's a rather unifying film to the masses of this hellish wasteland because it's casually abysmal and desolate, just like the satirical heart and center of the modern channer's philosophical compass and life expectations.
>>
>>84373936
I just heard about this movie. Sounds interesting. Worth it?
>>
>>84374464
This is a good sentence. I was thinking about the same thing just now before I read your comment. Is there anyone on /tv/ that hasn't seen NCFOM?

>>
>>84374777
While it is very possible to suppress a 12 gauge as shown in no country, it is not possible to make it sound that soft piss laser like.

The problem with recording a suppressed gun shot - it just breaks the DB level that your conventional audio devices record at, so it "cuts off" the peak of the sound.

I'd say a gun, that has a suppressor, that is shooting subsonic loads sounds like taking two 2x4's and slapping the face to face - it's a crack that is just below wince inducing.

No suppression, subsonic loads: https://youtu.be/nINKFpsi5Bo

Suppression by 32 DBs, same subsonic loads: https://youtu.be/SLAauCv53CU

Man, I saw Collateral recently. It hasn't aged well. Parts of it are great, parts of it are pointless, and parts of it don't make sense. Michael Mann could've used a better editor, although I wouldn't be surprised if he vetoed some of the proposed cuts.
