Let's face it.

Lynch Hijacked his most popular work, Twin Peaks, near the very end of his career, because it was the only vehicle he could use to potentially do whatever the fuck he wanted.

He does not care about how you feel about Twin Peaks, or your nostalgia. All the Lynchians go on and o, literally making fun of TP fans. I mean "normies", or "you don't get it", they are chuckling and laughing at how disappointed real Twin Peaks fans are. (seriously, I read their posts, they are all laughing at you, knowing your heart ache, "I'm so glad the "normies" are leaving for good after this, LYNCHEDD!! XD idiots)

I actually get both sides because I actually watched Eraserhead over and over when I was like 12 because I loved it. I have seen every movie he made (I think) except Inland Empire.

I even "liked" last night's episode because of the "WTF" component of it. But it ruins the show TP. (But wasn't it kind of ruined in season 2 anyway?) And I kind of feel bad for the "normies" as the "abnormie" Lynchian elitest "art" lovers call them. As a show, TP was great. Lynch used and abused it to make this thing. (I would love this if I never saw a single TP episode, but understand some HATING this thing having seen them all)
>>
So did anyone here unironically read the new TP book?

OFFSCREEN CRIMES OF DOPPLEGANGER COOPER

>Murdered Major Garland Briggs, beheaded him, raped his body, raped his head and burned his office down
>Raped Audrey Horne while she was in a coma after the bomb at the bank, first with different parts of a dog, secondly with Major Briggs' decapitated head (She had a son, Richard Horne, the guy from the bar who later runs the kid over with his truck)
>While in the hospital pissed on Pete's corpse and shit on the parts of Andrew Packard they could salvage after the bomb blast
>Jaywalking
>Raped and murdered Donna while forcing James to sing "Just You and Me"
>Raped and shaved James
>Raped Harry and then shoved 90 pounds of RICE up his ass along with two gallons of BLEACH(that's why Harry is sick and dying)
>Raped Little Nicky
>Raped Dick Tremayne
>Does not pay his taxes
>Executed and raped a FBI agent in Columbia after Albert gave Jeffries the name and then dismembered his body to make into a dancing manikin with dog parts and Major Briggs' head
>Humiliated Diane and then raped, beat and abused her after going to her house shortly after leaving the lodge, forced a dog to rape her as well before dismembering the dog and putting parts of it up her ass and leaving her traumatized
>Coerced poor truckers to read books on Tibet before beheading then raping them
>Never returns his library books
>Yodeled at then tortured, raped, and murdered Annie and then used her head along with Major Briggs' head as bloody sock puppets to reenact the opening scene of the Dark Knight Rises
>Litters constantly
>Mounted a dogs head on a pole after raping and killing it and chopped off all its legs to use as a crude message delivery system
>Instead of paying his speeding tickets he tracked down and raped the police officers
>>
>Most of the Twin Peaks lore was Frost's idea
>The origin story they showed us last night was probably mostly Frost's idea

I'm not so sure about that. Episode 8 was almost all weird lodge shit, but we hadn't really gotten anything this weird since episode 3. A pattern in this season is that nothing gets resolved in the immediate following episode, whether that's the key getting to the Great Northern or Hawk finding out about his heritage. We're probably getting a few more "normal" episodes before the next big mind fuck.

Did anyone notice some strangely specific similarities between the New Mexico 50's town and Twin Peaks? Does it seem too far-fetched to expect Jacoby's radio show to be hijacked by black hobo ghost creatures in an upcoming episode? I know there are plenty of LYNCHED moments, but it's hard to believe the two broadcast studios we’ve seen won’t have some connection.

The amount of pain and suffering a nuclear explosion could create is so exciting to the lodge spirits, they hijacked the General's body to get closer to launch codes. The coordinates are either a launch site or a target.
>>
Is the "Got a light?" meant to be satirical, since the woodsman was created due to a literal atomic explosion and him asking humans if they have "a light" when they have just demonstrated they have the power to create the biggest most deadly light in human history, and is the reason he is there, is like he is taking the piss and being sarcastic to them. of course they have a light, he wouldn't be there if they didn't

then he kills them by squeezing his hand into their skulls to reflect back to them the power and significance of what their species has done in going nuclear

Seemingly to give life to Coop since he was transitioning to the world trying to get his original body back, and Evil Coop tricked the soul switch somehow, leaving it up to The Giant to create a temporary vessel for Coop so he wouldn't be stuck in limbo
>orange/gold orb appeared when Dougie soul was switched with Coop, trapping Dougie in the Lodge. He was processed into the orb

So if all that is correct (or somewhere in the vicinity of understanding what the fuck goes on in Lynch's head), then I guess it would be fair to assume Laura was manufactured for a purpose. The orange orb with Laura's face i'd like to think is a similar phenomenon to Dougie's case right now. So she was manufactured to stop Bob I guess (or at least contain him?) And the Atomic Bomb created all the evil that comes from the Black Lodge, including BOB? Am I on the right track?

Is Laura going to go full Goku now? It seems inevitable. Is anyone else tired of this Laura tramp? Be honest, folks. And for that matter, is anyone else thinking there is too much spirit shit in this season? I absolutely LOVE Twin Peaks and Lynch's work as a whole, but I genuinely feel ripped off by this episode. Now before some of you start saying I just don't 'get' it, yeah you're right. Some of you are so much smarter than me and can appreciate art more. I don't know how genius what I just watched was, blah blah blah. Save it. That was a waste of 45 minutes (at least the start had some plot progression). Yes I'm sure it ties into the overall mythology and there was hints of this in TSHOTP, but I totally get why the execs at Showtime stepped in at one point. This episode could have been a short he released independently, really seemed to be mostly visual images he dreamed up and wanted to commit to film, and shoehorned them in to the show. Worst episode of the show by a country mile. I'll go back to being narrow-minded and incapable of understanding the brilliance of Lynch now.

>>
>>84341399
I do too, but it seems Lynch isn't much into that. Remember, the vast minority of the old Twin Peaks was actually written or directed by him. The other writers and directors' influence is probably a lot of what made the old show the Twin Peaks that we know. From what we can see from FWWM and this new season is that Lynch's idea of Twin Peaks and the audience's idea aren't necessarily the same idea.

Original Dougie was not created to give life to Coop but to trick the soul switch, using the orb which is what he was in essence, by evil Coop. S1E1 happens in 1989, and as I said, the final sequence of last night's episode happens in 1956.
If the girl was Leland's mother and she had gotten pregnant around the time she swallowed the frogroach, Leland would be 33 in S1, which means he had Laura at 16. But he looks much older than 33.
I seriously doubt that girl is Leland's mother.
>>
>>84341501
I dated a girl in my 20s I thought I loved very much. One day I was drunk/high and I was listening to a song and it struck me that I have no idea who this girl is at all. It was like I was dating a person who I only concocted in my head. She had no feelings of her own, she was like my homonculus, crafted solely to satisfy my desires for companionship. The real person in front of me there had her own feelings, thoughts, hopes, and fears, and I knew none of them.

The very act of seeing that image for what it was destroyed it. We broke up shortly after. Even though the homonculus is destroyed I still remember it. It was beautiful.

To me, watching FWWM is like thinking of that real girl who I'd refused to see for who she is get destroyed by my ignorance. Thankfully this didn't happen in real life, because I'm not sure I could live with the thought that I let my own petty desires stop me from seeing the someone's suffering.

I will never be sick of Laura Palmer.

Jane Levy Will Lead Stephen King/JJ Abrams CASTLE ROCK Series "Normie Peaks"

>Set in the Stephen King multiverse, “Castle Rock”, from Bad Robot Productions and Warner Bros. Television, is named after the fictional town in King’s native Maine that is featured prominently in a number of his novels, novellas, and short stories. Per the producers, it combines the mythological scale and intimate character storytelling of King’s best-loved works, weaving an epic saga of darkness and light, played out on a few square miles of Maine woodland.

>Now she's a supernatural entity herself
I'm not convinced of this yet, and it's a bit too literal a reading imo, and she certainly didn't act like it and was quite flawed in her life on Earth. I think the imagery in part 8 just continues the idea that has always been in the show that Laura was just a fundamentally good person.

There's bound to be a reason for this, which is one of the few things that deserve to be explained (unless all the other things that didn't have to be and that the series decided it all answer for some reason). It's strange that the characters didn't ask this question themselves during the scene, but hopefully there will be a reason that will be revealed before the end of the series (maybe when they find the 4th page).

>We all want, on some level, for Twin Peaks to be ridiculously amazing — a cultural event that reinvigorates our collectively blurred memories, resoundingly returns Lynch (who will direct all 18 episodes) to the peak of his creative powers and reaffirms Showtime's relevance.
>But the biggest problem facing Twin Peaks is not the weight of our expectations. It's that Legion on FX has already stolen its most precious commodity, and its thunder — though the confirmation of that won't come until it's certain that Twin Peaks can't either match our highest hopes or, more likely, can't match the creative achievement that Legion has already put on the public record.
>a very good argument can be made that Noah Hawley's Legion is a far trippier and aggressively weirder series. There is currently nothing like it on television. Not even close.
>And lest you need a reminder, Legion will have put a full eight episodes out two months before Showtime premieres Twin Peaks.
>Legion has already redefined not only how to depict mental illness but — wait for it — how to do a Marvel show for thinking adults. Which is the greater achievement?
>Seriously, what can Twin Peaks deliver in the realm of freak-tastic visuals that Legion hasn't already tossed out as nightmare bait? The show's exquisitely rendered conception of what life looks like from inside the mind of a mentally unstable person is already, bar none, the best that television has achieved.
>So tell me again how Twin Peaks is going to be weirder than that?
>Maybe Lynch and company have learned how to run a TV series in the meantime, but if not there may be a rude awakening in terms of how badly atmospheric and impressionistic visuals that lack narrative cohesion go over with the savvy Peak TV crowd.

>Laura was just a fundamentally good person

But she wasn't.
>>
>>84342035

Laura was pulled out of the Red Room at the start of the season, potentially by the Giant. He was holding onto her and now has sent her back down to Twin Peaks in the current year (they perceive time differently). What we have witnessed is a massive time alteration.

It's also not necessarily the Laura Palmer we know. Remember the words of MIKE:

"She's my cousin."
>>
>>84340006
I don't get it. Lynch was actually giving us some backstory to the supernatural stuff in the last episode. No shit it was weird and abstract but what we actually learned about these creatures is pretty straight forward.

Ic you don't care for the supernatural stuff you can go and watch Fargo. And even that hat flying saucers in the second season.

>>84342134
>The central element of Legion, much like Mr. Robot, is that it has an unreliable narrator. But even though things are trippy beyond belief or perception on Legion so far, there's a thread of the story that stems from a sense-making core. Meaning, Hawley is rigorously experimenting with what a TV series would look like if it explored mental illness from the inside of a patient's brain, while simultaneously shepherding a Marvel X-Men property where the main character is a mutant with a special power that negates the idea of mental illness (almost) entirely.
>So what we have is an intellectually curious creator who doesn't seem particularly interested in the superhero genre unless he can subvert its conventions from the inside and make them fresh and interesting with new purpose and meaning.
>That, if you believe Hawley is pulling it off right now and will continue to, is a spectacular example of creativity. And, dare I say it, likely weirder and more fantastical than anything Twin Peaks will come up with, thus negating that series' defining attribute.

Log Lady fits the most because she mysteriously disappeared in 1947 for a period of time

We saw Bob being pulled out of DoppelCoop into the orb form by the vagrants, and are then shown it once again being vomited out by the Experiment. Perhaps it has been returned to the Experiment (this is all weird theorising stuff of course) and the timeline has looped back to that point with Bob out in the world again from 1956 onwards to a different timeline - hence the weird timeline inconsistencies in TSHOTP.

Some interesting theories I've heard: When Mike says, "she's my cousin," he's maybe revealing that Maddie is actually a doppelganger created by Mike and the gang? Think about it; it'd make sense for Mike to be able to "manufacture" Maddie. Two birds with one stone. And it's Maddie's murder that actually gets Leland arrested, finally. Maybe Maddie is the literal reincarnation of Laura.

I've also read that the real story of FWWM is Dale preventing Laura from taking the ring, altering the timeline thereby and giving Bob a legit chance to possess Laura. The scene where Gerard gets pissed at Leland happens right after the "Don't take the ring, Laura" dream scene. At the end, Laura only avoids possession when Gerard throws the ring into the box car at the last minute.

I always figured the ring bit was to show the difference between Coop and MIKE, or mostly to show MIKE isn't an entirely good guy, and Cooper still doesn't fully understand the Lodges's workings. I figured he knows wearing the ring makes Laura a target for BOB so he tells her not to wear it on principle. His biggest character point is that he's principled. MIKE doesn't really give a shit about humans individually so he's aiming for his true objective, killing BOB, and making sure BOB possesses as few people as possible is part of that.

Dale "Dougie" Cooper has been reseted in life.
What we've seen of Dougie Coop so far has been his baby self. We'll see him develop as a whole new human, remembering slowly, re-learning fast, meeting again with old friends and old rivals, as if meeting people from a past life.
New Coop will put a real end to the Laura Palmer's case in the finale.
