So a fat pothead hollywood jew took a comic about self discovery and pretty much the American Dream and has bastardized beyond recovery in 1 Season Plus 1 Episode.

It is no longer a journey about self discovery but as Seth put it in an interview with Colbert, "It's a comedy with a lot of gore I love gore".

The characters/antagonists present in the comic were reflections of the main characters hang ups on life. With his goal being to find God aka reason for existence. In order to do this he overcomes many strife's and representations of the bad things throughout his life each time becoming a better person as the comic progresses.

In the end Jesse forgives himself by forgiving and accepting Cassidy who represents the way he views himself a parasite that must prove he is alive, dies and is reborn as he has learned that the reason for existence doesn't matter just enjoying it with the ones you love does. Through his struggles he set out and achieved his dream thus God is dead killed by his hero.

The Saint of Killers was his childhood icon and the saint tracking him down means that he felt he had failed and became a garbage individual.

Most of the hate is from season 1 being a kinda slow prequel, so it's gonna be hard to shake that reputation and win /tv/ back over. I was around for the livethreads through season 1 and /tv/ did seem to give it a fair a shake with Cassidy being a board favorite, but wiping the slate clean with a cow poo gas explosion really made it all sorta pointless and you were robbed of even the sunk cost of being invested into all those people. At the very least we should've had the sheriff survive and looking for Eugene or something. The high octane season premier was a great start, but things shouldn't wind down too much or people will get impatient. Obviously you can't have every episode being a warzone, but more stuff like the brilliant strip club owner scene (with Cassidy scuffling with the security guard on the monitors behind them) would keep people hooked without having to have every scene be the absolute craziest thing you'll see on TV all week.
