Is this watchable like Entourage?

Yes. What is your next question?
>>
>>84321716
are there any other characters besides the Rock and Rob Corrdry?

I think it's actually more watchable than Entourage. The guys in Entourage (except maybe Turtle) were so divorced from actual reality that it was difficult to empathize with them. In Ballers, yeah, these fucking football jocks are getting fat paid, but they're also tremendous fuckups that do Hollywood-level shenanigans and actually suffer consequences, not to mention are shown with far more external influences on their lifestyles and behaviors than the Entourage crew did. Don't get me wrong, Entourage was a solid show with a decent cast of characters, but they were only marginally characters because Piven's Ari Gold was a professional and was constantly there to corral them with some reality as a shield, but in so doing they never seemed to learn much from their mistakes. Ballers lacks that safety cushion: infidelity costs these guys their marriages and families, shitbag hangers-on drive them into nigh-bankruptcy living the high life, media scandals destroy league offers and chances, and all that despite The Rock's character's best efforts to change their courses for the betterment of their futures, but he has his own monumental issues on top of being essentially an amateur at this game; he's a wannabe messiah that is still a victim of that life in its own right, with a past that keeps popping up to fuck his life at the same time he's trying to convince these (by and large) idiots not to fuck up like he did (and continues to do).

So despite the casualness of talking multi-million dollar transactions for actors and football players, which Entourage and Ballers both have, the tightrope for people in Ballers has a much more perilous fall on both sides than the guys in Entourage do, and that makes it, I think, a stronger show.

Is Entourage worth a watch, lads?
>>
>>84321702
Im ya nigga dog, holla holla get dolla
>>
>>84322329
I admire your post. I think it's also an age factor too. Ballers looks like it's about older people.
>>
>>84322660
Also experience. Say what you want about The Rock's acting but he has been in the entertainment game for decades and is a legitimate superstar who understands the weight of success. Adrien Grenier was an actor whose character was more successful than the actual actor. The Rocks character is less successful than the actual actor and he brings a "been there done that" casualness to the show that is definitely believable.
>>
>>84322660
Only marginally. The bulk of the Ballers characters are college-age rookies and veterans with some years in the game that might have been about the ages of the Entourage guys.
>>
>>84322770
Adrian Grenier definitely brought the show down but I understand why they couldn't get a real name to play that role given what they were going for with the "reality" style.
>>
>>84322818
Yeah, agreed. And I'm only saying that in hindsight with a somewhat similar show like Ballers to compare it against.
>>
>>84322880
it's easier to imagine a guy like the Rock's character existing in the sports world I guess.
>>

It's better. There's actually a story. I kind of hated S1 because everything worked out. They built up the whole season about him having serious beef with an athlete he purposefully injured, ending his career and made it out that there would be a massive confrontation between the two.

When they finally meet, The Rock sort of but not really apologises and the other guyjust forgives him no harm done.

Then they say he has all these medical issues but lol nope he's actually fine.

Season 2 corrects these and actually realizes a character that has to deal with his actions and suffer the consequences of them and its a much better show. There's a lot of character growth and pathos in that second season.

Also in S1 there's a character named Reggie who is one of the worst assholes I've ever seen in a tv show but he improves a lot in S2 with the introduction of his LaVar Ball-esque father.

Season 2 was really enjoyable and was what I thought S1 was gonna be. S1 is just NFL Entourage but more boring because Miami isn't Hollywood.

It's the raunchiest lil' litty tv show of the summer! Me and my buddies watched an episode a few days back and we pissed ourselves so much that the entire room became flooded with piss
>>
So will i like this show if i loved entourage but absolutely don't give a fuck about football and the NFL?
it's fucking interesting how /tv/ either ignores or hates entourage, a show which is basically about male friendship, loyalty and "bro-culture". i guess almost no one on here experienced real friendship.
i watched it like 3 times probably, reminds me so much of me and my friends in high school.
>>
>>84322329
lol what is this,an informed post on 4chan,lol what a fag!

Seriously though,nice writeup,here's a (you)
>>
>>84322329
Turtle was literally the worst one.
>>
>>84322443
I agree,he was the worst one. Everyone has a role (E is his best friend and a manager and Drama is his brother) but Turtle is just a moocher. What is that episode in which he gets something huge from Vince, then gets sad when others get cars but he doesn't only to be pranked and he got a car too? Fuck him.
>>
>>84321702
I watch it for the lifestyle porn aspect. I stay because it's really enjoyable, amusing and well-acted
The Rock and Rob Cordry are a great duo

Plus, they're both mostly intelligent so you're never pissed at them for acting like idiots (fuckups sure, but never idiots)
>>
>>84327607
He would've taken a bullet for Vince.
>>
>Ballers
>no lavar ball

I'll pass

Yes of course, that's what he says.
