Hardly anyone would like it if it wasn't Lynch. In his hiatus, people have long since attached themselves like barnacles to the man, rather than the work. Long ago, he created some fantastic works where his attention to multi-layered, idiosyncratic stories was praiseworthy. This blew many away. So now, he can create things which have no meaning, and it is automatically assumed to have depth.

This is no fault of Lynch, but the perils of fandom. Create a vague, directionless, but detailed and esoteric work. And if that work becomes praised, all your following works - if presented similarly - will be presumed intellectual. Bonus is, you will never have to explain yourself ever again. The fans will defend it and see things that aren't necessarily there.

A guy on a forum waxed philosophical on a certain episode, saying "I see the 5 minutes of sweeping scene as Lynch metaphorically saying 'ok, we're done with all the rock bands. Now the REAL Twin Peaks begins'. Genius!"

He would've sworn blind that's what it was about. But we see that isn't the case. It's typical of this mindset.
