It's not that strange of a thing to say. I'm around Chris's age and I remember them playing the movies on the Sci-Fi channel all the time. I got into them by watching them with my dad. I don't know why it needs to be mentioned in a film review though. Planet of the Apes isn't a property like Star Wars where it's monumental to any childhood. Like there's not kid that had Planet of the Apes as his "thing" in the same way some kids are into Ninja Turtles or Power Rangers or something.
