It isn't so bad. Yes it was watered down in places but it still is a decent flick. I loved the guy who played Batou. He nailed the anime character.

Scarjo wasn't so bad as Major. She sure played the role well of a confused person not knowing who he identity is and for a 1 off standalone film: I am happy they chose to reveal her true identity. This was never meant to be like the anime but inspired by it and I doubt they have any sequels planned so ending the film on a positive note with her knowing who she is now isn't any problem at all.

4K is not a scam if you think it is. Remember that all movies down to the 1920's are technically 4K and when they were released on VHS, Laser disc, DVD, Blu Ray - they had to be downscaled to fit the discs and software. 4K simply is bringing it up to how the original quality was on the camera.

I saw it theatrically projected from a pristine 35mm print twize in the last 2 months. beats any BD. definitely a film that needs to be seen on a huge screen with the glorious kenji kawaii score at full power.
