Asylum of the Daleks could've been fucking great

Instead we get 3 minutes of daleks and a brown storage facility.

I wanted to see insane Daleks, multiple levels of the asylum (each themed), and a simple action plot where the doctor has to do x and get out, but he has to go through all that shit first.

Not imply. She is. 'That guy' is the Master from S3-S4 and Missy is the Master from S8-now. They're a Time Lord, like the Doctor. He's a previous incarnation.

This must be a weird season to start on.
>>
>>84309545
You know how there have been 13 different actors who have portrayed the Doctor? Well they have an in-universe explanation for that. Every time a time lord is mortally injured, they can cheat death by "regenerating". The downside though, is their face and personality change. And rarely, especially when you're written by Moffat, your gender can change too.

That's really interesting, didn't realize you can time travel and see your other self. Can the Doctor also do that? How many Time Lords are there even?

Yeah, despite them claiming that S10 was going to be a good jumping on point, it really wasn't. You should've started with S1, S5, or S8. Next year will be a great year for beginners though, since the showrunner is changing. It'll be like a brand new show.

>Can the Doctor also do that?
Yeah, it's happened a few times in anniversary specials. This is the first time there's been a multi-Master episode on-screen though.

>How many Time Lords are there even?
The Doctor and the Master are essentially it in the new series. I could list a bunch of others but you'll never see them in a new episode so it would be pointlessly confusing.

>How many Time Lords are there even?
There are at least a hundred but the only ones in the new series are the Doctor and the Master if you count a Time Lord as an academy rank on Gallifrey.

In order of the Time Lords most likely to appear in the new series, it would be Romana, the Meddling Monk and the Rani (kek).

Also people react to new viewers asking questions in such a weird and slightly embarrassing way. Linking the TARDIS wiki page on the blinovitch limitation effect? Really? MONDASIAN ANTI-PLASTIC!
>>
So Mondasians and Humans are equivalent? Master was somehow on board and secured exclusive control of the lifts? What purpose would there be for sending some of the descendants up to higher floors (and the danger was obviously bullshit, theyre just time dilated up there)? Isn't twenty people insufficient genetic diversity for several generations, or are we to gather that progress on exodus began rapidly enough for all fifty crew to be brought down and bred before being converted? Did the master recognize his future self solely by personality?
>>
>>84310383
If some people do go back up the lift, they'd get to a floor that hadn't degraded as much, and I'd expect out of selfishness just decide to stay there. We're talking about people who were born on the ship, and aren't too savvy on the relativity.

Or, if the lift is engaged for a few seconds near the first few floors, that's quite a while in the bottom, could explain why the original crew sent down never came back up.
>>

Yes, but since all of his known regenerations were male, why would he be confused about the first doctor gender?

I think none of the cybermen on the ship are going to survive since we know they'll get upgraded all the way to the modern ones, if the cybermen there escape we would never have seen their previous designs. I think maybe one of the originals might just get back to mondas and be reproduced by the mondasians
>>

Well, it would be pretty weird if the ship and Mondas both came up with the exact same idea and design for cybermen independently from each other. So I guess the ship goes back?

Thorne had the same problem when Nolan told him that the plot of Interstellar demanded 1 hour = 7 years on Earth.

He solved it by giving the black hole angular momentum - you can get basicaly arbitrarily large time dilations with stable orbits this way, but the maths is much more difficult.
>>
>>84312764
Shouldnt the combination of gravitational and orbital time dilation be sufficient?

AI is one of the most mysterious indexes out there.

'Genesis of the Daleks' is often considered one of the best classic who story, while 'The Twin Dilemma' is one of the worst.

They both got almost identical AI.

Midnight, one of RTD's best had worse AI than The Doctor's Daughter.

Is AI selected randomly?
>>
>>84312831

the problem is that you cannot orbit arbitrarily close to a black hole, in the regions of spacetime close enough to the event horizon to give you these insane time dilation factors, there are no stable oribts, even for objects traveling at light speed.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Innermost_stable_circular_orbit
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photon_sphere

rotating black holes are different, all sorts of weird shit like frame dragging kicks in and all bets are off.

How bad is S10? I wasn't impressed at all with Pilot, thought it was pretty fucking shit actually. Bill's character was summed up as "gay and horny" and was as shallow as a puddle and the monster felt like the worst kind of Star Trek technobabble. It was just "it can do X, Y and Z" just because we need it to with forced drama added in. It was like the Mummy on the Orient Express except without the tension and the emotional weight.

I wouldn't call it truly "bad" besides the monk trilogy post-extremis, it's just been a huge letdown
Especially after seeing capaldi in all of the character driven stuff in S9, S10 feels like they've gone too far in the other direction - it's not RTD era running down corridors, but there's significantly fewer character driven moments and that's what I liked the most about how the show changed with capaldi

The main difference with S10 is the arc has been done in a way that virtually every episode ends with a direct lead-in to the next one. There's also fairly constant mentions of "the vault" and "your oath, sir" to the point that it gets a little grating at times

There are still good episodes, but there's a lot of meh ones. The ones listed in >>84313585 are the only ones I'd recommend if you don't have the patience for meh. If you're really lacking in patience, even just World Enough and Time could do. It's the culmination of what the arc involving missy has lead up to, but they do enough explaining of it that you can probably catch on without feeling like you missed much. Regarding missy's arc, Extremis is the episode that first reveals it and then Empress of Mars has a couple small scenes that set up World Enough, but if you're desparate you could go without those

1.Didn't humans evolve on Mondas at the sametime and rate as those on Earth? Wouldn't interstellar travel be beyond them?
2.Why was the out of sequence regeneration tease at the start or included at all?
3.Why was there an uneeded flashback establishing this was Missy's trial run when it had already been done by the character's dialogue and last episode's, "It's time we were friends again" twoddle?
4.Why is the Doctor/Master relationship retconned as a tumblr fanon concept?
5.Why doesn't Missy remember any of this?
6.Why does SimmMaster want a kiss from himelf?
7.Why does it feel like any villian race could have been used?

You know how movie trailers on youtube these days include a couple second micro-trailer of some action and the punchline joke just to get your attention just before the actual trailer starts, which is about to show those things anyway?

It's that

Because the show currently has the worst viewing figures ever and they want to get people to watch again

Why do you call asking questions a bait? Is the only non-bait post is "WOW GREAT EPISODE 10/10 CAN WE PRAISE IT"?

Just over a year from that point. We don't know the timespan from "Settling in and becoming a Janitor" to her full conversion to cyberman/end of episode.

For a second I thought you were talking about Class, but then I realised it was The Eaters of Shite.
>>
>>84314793
Because basic logic has never mattered in Dr Who, now shut up and don't think about how incredibly stale the "STOP FIGHTING, WORK TOGETHER" trope is at this point

Is Class even good?
