not really
I mean it's an obvious anti-war piece but as a whole it still really shines. comfy yet visceral and violent.
A film made today would almost certainly never use certain devices like the laconic narration and jazzy score in an earnest way. But that doesn't diminish the quality of the movie itself.

Wrong.
it could be set in almost any era of history though
hell it was loosely adapted from a 19th century russian book
what parts of it do you think aged poorly, besides the miniscule vietnam stuff?

I'll start
I read the script for Taxi Driver not too long ago and i could totally see it taking place in modern times but intead of a taxi he would drive an Uber and he would be coming out of the war in Iraq. The subject matter is really quite timeless and brilliant. Sure, there's some scenes that didn't age all that well, but the tortured and troubled character of Travis Bickle and his journey is just as relevant and topical now then back then. Think about it, we got all these young guys with sick, fucked up views of the world created because they can't relate to others and they can't seem to find their place or purpose in the world.
The blood looking like tomato sauce was quite obvious though, and new york has cleaned up immensely since the 70's.

Would Travis be an incel? Is Eliot Rodgers a modern retelling of taxi driver?

I like this movie and I'm 18

young white men who are socially isolated and retreat into violent fantasies is a theme that's as relevant as ever
>>84307882
If you mean the special effects and blood at the end then, yeah. Everything else though you can go fuck yourself
>>84307882
>movie meant to show how fucked up travis is and how it's such a sad thing the vietnam war and society produces guys like him, he's not meant to be a hero as the loli tells him she doesnt need saving and he was just as ready to assassinate a politician as be a vigilante, creators were disturbed by how many people loved and supported him
>they ended the movie with his violent rampage being praised as heroic in the media and he faces no legal consequences for his shooting spree and he lives happily ever after in his taxi with newfound self-respect and purpose all because he blew away some criminals
what did they mean by this?

But there aren't porn theaters anymore.

I love the jazzy score. Bernard Herrmann (the composer) died literally hours after completing it.

If you're saying that Taxi Driver smells like rotten cheese I'll have to ask you to keep your smelly ideas away from anyone.
How does a movie age, anyway... There is plenty of b&w movies that on this date still manage to make wonder people about life and stuff, thing that I find missing in loads of movies today.
I don't understand what could be outdated about a ex vet sociopath that wants to get rid of the scum.
