This wasn't an episode of Twin Peaks. This was a beautiful, surreal experimental short film directed by David Lynch. I loved every second for the risks he took. If you treat it like anything else, you're going to hate it and that's fine too.

The atomic bomb sequence (and the creation of BOB?) though is probably one of my favorite, unsettling, and haunting visuals he's ever conjured up in over 40 years of filmmaking and that's saying something.
>>
So in my understanding before the nuclear test the black/white lodge could only be accessed in very VERY specific conditions and only in a very limited way. That's how people knew about it and interacted with it in the past.

But during the nuclear test a large doorway opened and a lot of evil shit poured into our world and BOB was one of the larger spirits that got deposited on our side.

Laura was created to "fix things" or balance it out but was essentially located and tortured by BOB who probably knew of her importance.

Now we also know why Coop was directed by the Giant. They want BOB contained because it was unnatural for him to even get released on Earth.

So are you of the opinion that the nuke created the Black Lodge itself or that the nuke someone allowed the evil of the Lodge into this world?

But then what was the Giant's world? Its existence didn't seem to have originated from the nuke test. So why would the Black Lodge's?

Has the Mother/Experiment always existed?

I'm just going to assume the country is swarming with malevolent spirits since the nuke, but they're generally unnoticed lesser ones and range from creepy to skullcrushing whatever the fuck. They sensed BOB, a greater spirit and swarmed to free him from an apparently dying vessel. (maybe? idk)

Evil Coop pulled through in the end anyway. He's just going to lack his ghost pal to help him out from now on.

Or I could be a big wrong retard about all of this.
>>

>>
>>84307696
Nuclear weapons work by fission. Literally tore the building blocks of life apart and ??? (mother nature?) spewed up a bunch of evil as a result.

The conveniance store didn't have an upper floor back then, and the soot covered men seemed to move around randomly without purpose.

I think that when bob and co were able to find their way into the world they were able to start controlling these stray spirits/energy.

Energy. Electricity. Spirits. I think they are all joined in some way in the Twin peaks universe, possibly even capable of being one and the same thing.

This could all be one big metaphor about karma. Good energy and bad energy.

>>84307781
I'm far from convinced that mike is a good spirit.

The giant lived in a literal lighthouse in a sea of chaos with that woman. Downstairs they could hear things, upstairs see things. That same place is now floating in the chaos and not locked in place, and there is no upstairs and the (new?) woman is blind.

The only comparison I can think of something this off putting happening in the "mainstream" is Revolution 9 on The White Album. A giant fuck you. An incredibly bold move. A blow the fuck out to simple people expecting "weird", but Tim Burton level weird. This episode, and this season 3, really, is colossal. I didn't believe the president of Showtime when he said this was gonna be Lynch on heroin. I didn't believe him, although I wished it was true, but I couldn't believe it. It was impossible--this was gonna be on streaming on Netflix, advertised with pictures of pies and coffee, celebrating all the returning cast. "It will try to recapture the old style and mood and fail", I sigh in resignation. "Lynch is out of form, Frost is involved..." But now, we have this. And this is something else. This is radical new television. Ballsy, bold, angry new television. Everything else seems amateur now. It's like a real fucking auteur came to television kicking the door to put everyone to shame.

Mesmerizing, really. What a time to be alive.
>>
>>84307806

The Lodge, or something preceding it, was always out there. Maybe it even came into contact with man before in some small ways, I dunno. It just took the nuke to get it's full attention imo. The Giant just monitors stuff from his tower. When malignant evil spilled into reality through the trinity test he intervened to rebalance it. Or at least try.

Mike is definitely a good spirit...

>WHEN IS SAW THE FACE OF GOD, I TORE THE WHOLE ARM OFF

If he wasn't created by The Giant, then he is a renegade Black Lodge spirit. That actually makes more sense, since we see him in the Black Lodge so often.

He's going to give Cooper back his shoes, which he left behind, since he's a shoes salesman....and then Cooper will become Coop again.

When he is reunited with his arm, then his evil tendencies come back, such as desire for Garmonbozia as we see in FFWM. But when he's not touching the arm, he's good.

>When he is reunited with his arm, then his evil tendencies come back, such as desire for Garmonbozia as we see in FFWM. But when he's not touching the arm, he's good.

>>
>>84307907
No he says he took off the arm for the same reason that he stays close to Gerard's body: to find BOB and stop him.

The Arm holds down the lodge while MIKE can cruise looking for BOB in the other world. Then they can unite for full power, like when they get their corn back in unison or when you hear the sound of The Arm coming from Gerard's truck while he guns down on Leland.

I think you guys are overthinking things. Twin Peaks Season 3 is just a show about a guy with memory loss that rediscovers himself.

That's what Mulholland Dr was supposed to be as well (with a girl) since it was originally a pilot episode for a television series - the second 'half' of MD was added onto the 60-minute pilot to have a 'conclusion' and to be able to release it together as a feature-length film to recoup losses when the pilot wasn't picked up.

Lynch is just using Twin Peaks to make the show he couldn't make before, not making a something concerned intimately with Twin Peaks mythology/lore, which he doesn't care about except as a means to achieve his memory-loss story objectives.

The lore stuff is the least important bit of the show and the least substantial. It doesn't matter if or how the lore stuff makes sense.
>>
>>84307976
But he literally says "When I saw the face of God, I tore the whole arm off" way back in Cooper's first dream in season 1, go rewatch it.

We know now that the face of God is Laura for sure, as Laura is the anti-BOB, and that's why MIKE is ANTI-BOB. The Giant, or some other force, showed MIKE the face of God AKA Laura.
>>
>>84307832
I will add that my biggest question is what happened after Coop was swapped. If bob has been around for so long, and the other dark spirits have existed, then why was he at that stage SO content with just fucking underage girls and raping his daughter.

Was laura perhaps a magnet? A light in the night that attracted all the creepy crawlies? Then she's gone and they can kind of spread, and Cooper offered the perfect vessel?

>>84307907
I think he is a renegade black lodge spirit as well, and I like your thoughts about how coop might come around. I also like how being split in two (like an atom in a nuclear explosion) changed his nature.

>>84307993
I don't think Laura is a literal creation of them. I think that she was conceived as normal, but her soul shone just a little bit brighter.
>>
>>84307960
But how does he know about Garmonbozia?

Maybe Cole just really likes corn.
>>
>>84308035
No, he literally says "…but then I saw the face of God! I took off the arm, but stayed close to this vessel for ONE purpose…to find BOB…and stop him!"
>>
>>84307881

Coles role as a character is to be endearingly blissfully ignorant of anything thats really going on. They're just funny coincidences.
>>
>>84308032
>not making a something concerned intimately with Twin Peaks mythology/lore

That's exactly what they're doing though. That's what this whole episode was. That's what every episode has been pretty much. it's a continuation of Cooper's story. Just because we're not in Twin Peaks much, doesn't make this any less Twin Peaks.
>>
>>84308032
But there is a very clear narrative going on, much more clearly than mulholland drive or inalnd empire even. It's strange because lynch likes to leave it more open for interpretation. But it's right fucking there.
>>
>>84307993
For me, it all depends on how the nuke and the Black Lodge are related. If BOB and the Mother exist only because of the nuclear test, I'm not as big a fan.

I'm much more in favor of the Black Lodge, BOB, and the Mother not owing their existence to anything in our world.

But it's true. Gordons a good fbi guy but he can't into esoteric spritual weirdness in the slightest. That was Coops calling and what differentiated him from his colleagues. Gordon meets with the obviously possessed/NOTFUCKINGCOOP Coop and just declares it a blue rose case as he has no idea whats going on. Anyone that spent any time involved in what went on in Twin Peaks should immediatly know whats up with Cooper after Leland.

I've seen people point to his comical "WHAT THE HELL" as some implication that he recognized the thing in the box. Not everything is a conspiracy, especially fuckin Gordon.

It's Leland's neighbor. Leland knew said BOB was his "neighbor". If he was BOB from the point of birth, that wouldn't really fit in here.

I don't have a lot of things in my life to look forward to any more, but Twin Peaks is one of them.

When we are only given 50 minutes per week of story, and 3 of those minutes are Nine Inch Nails lip-and-instrument-syncing to a b-side track, and 15 of those minutes are filled with someone playing around in Adobe After Effects, it is really fucking disappointing.

Why couldn't this have been a two-part episode?

Now I have to wallow through another seven days of my miserable life to hopefully get to experience some semblance of a story next week.

I just realized something. BOB is described by Leland as having said, "Want to play with fire?" While these hobos say "YOU GOT A LIGHT?"

In other words, BOB is the flame that they are looking for when they ask GOT A LIGHT? BOB is fire, while they are smoldering, unlit cigarettes, underlings.

I only have 2 complaints with the episode and you touched on them then. I felt that the surreal imagery without dialogue went for a little bit too long and I'm worried that Laura may be some deus ex machina character.

I personally think she was normally conceived and all that, but her soul shone brighter than most because of what the giant did, which both made her a target for corrupting forces and drew people to her.

I'm wondering if Bob regrets joining the doppelganger. Assuming he doesn't have the power to leave whenever he wants. It's obvious Bob wants to have fun while collecting garmonbozia. But the doppelganger seems mostly bored, or too serious.

Plus, the sac that had Bob's face in it was smiling pretty hard when those hobos took him from the doppelganger.

Then the question becomes why does Dopplecoop have different motives and goals, and where did they come from.
>>
So Dopplecoop is still alive, just without Bob? Though I have a feeling that Dopplecoop "dying" basically fucked with the fabric of the universe and next episode might take place in the present but it isn't going to be the same as what we've seen in the first 7 episodes. >>
>>84309287
That's a good question.

Bob just wants garmonbozia. He wants to have fun while creating pain and sorrow. I really think the only goals he had were getting out of the black lodge again in some body. But the Doppelganger has pretty serious plans.

Coop got shot, then the Woodsmen came and extracted BOB from his dying body. Then they showed the origin of BOB and the Woodsmen. Seemed pretty self explanatory.

Nuke did a bad bad, allowed bad things to escape/exist/whatever.

Good giant sees this and tries to counterbalance by putting some good into the world.

There's your most basic interpretation which gives some backstory as to where BOB came from and what the Giant does, while also revealing why laura was so special (as hinted at in the red room scenes), and hints towards what the deal is with the other spirits.

The delivery method was way out there, yes, but it served a purpose.

Having expectations for this show was a bad idea from the start, it was always likely the show was going to be 'odd'.

So Laura was some fly-frog thing sent to fight the bad lodge spirits?

i dont know man
>frog/insect thing
>its shown jumping
>it comes from an egg and not a ball like bob and laura so it must be a different entity
i think the girl is actually /our guy/ the jumping man's mom
>>

It resembles a flute / saxaphone / recorder -- an instrument of god(s)?

Perhaps there's some minor connection to that earlier scene where the windows on the airplane went white as if it were playing a pattern on a recorder (the musical instrument recorder).

When did Ray had a chance to fuck up BadCoop's gun?
>>
>>84310581
He was probably working with the warden
>>
>>84310581
This wouldn't have happened to Dougie "the Cobra" Jones
>>
>>84310138
As a manifestation of evil, I'd say it is more or less the same imagery
>>
>>84310581
why didn't dopplecoop check the cylinder before getting out of the car? Getting caught was part of his plan
>>

Fucking rekt
>>
>>84309727
Except this is most definitely Twin Peaks.
These fucking idiots were hype for a Northern Exposure revival.
>>
>>84309765
I know this is a troll but the content of this episode was pure unfiltered Frost while the presentation was pure unfiltered Lynch

You've been FROSTED and LYNCHED
>>
>>84309706
This and only this. The fucking president of Showtime watched the whole series.
>>
>>84310146
Fourth of July weekend. This was Showtime's deal.

The floating fucking monster that barfed up Bob. It looked just like the Experiment Model in the first episode.
>>
>>84311777
Erica Eynon was the model for the weird claymation thing called the "Experiment" (which people inexplicably call "the Mother" despite its being named in the credits in the first episode)

You can tell it's based on her by the tits
>>
>>84311830
The Experiment Model wasn't claymation. And yeah, that's definitely the same body.

The actual questions to be asked are why this manifestation of evil is even called the Experiment, and is the Experiment Model a different, lesser being?
>>
>>84311865
I just assumed the thing is called the Experiment (the experiment in question being the Trinity test) and the difference in credits was just a production thing (since she's the model for a special effect, not a performer), but I wouldn't exactly be surprised if it turns out otherwise.
>>
>>84310725

He did; the bullets were blanks though.
>>
>>84311932
That could be. Just holding out on anything until the end. As I see it, the Experiment is either capable of splitting aspects of itself off into the physical plane, or the thing itself is running amok in New York. Both imply some scary shit.
>>
>>84310725
He did check the cylinder. He just made the mistake of trusting that the warden's fear would be enough to keep him safe. At this point I don't even know if the dugpas saved him. A completely different person might have gotten up.
>>
>>84312108
Imagine if that's now real Coop and Dougie Coop was another alternate version all along. Then only real OR Dougie Coop can live.

(Disclaimer: That won't happen though.)
>>
>>84312242
I doubt this too. Honestly I don't think we've seen the last of Bad Dale. Just not putting anything past these things.
