I want this guy to write another article about this.

This wasn't an episode of Twin Peaks. This was a beautiful, surreal experimental short film directed by David Lynch. I loved every second for the risks he took. If you treat it like anything else, you're going to hate it and that's fine too.

The atomic bomb sequence (and the creation of BOB?) though is probably one of my favorite, unsettling, and haunting visuals he's ever conjured up in over 40 years of filmmaking and that's saying something.

So in my understanding before the nuclear test the black/white lodge could only be accessed in very VERY specific conditions and only in a very limited way. That's how people knew about it and interacted with it in the past.

But during the nuclear test a large doorway opened and a lot of evil shit poured into our world and BOB was one of the larger spirits that got deposited on our side.

Laura was created to "fix things" or balance it out but was essentially located and tortured by BOB who probably knew of her importance.

Now we also know why Coop was directed by the Giant. They want BOB contained because it was unnatural for him to even get released on Earth.

Just finished anons. What was the song that played during the Giant throwing up the orange ball? It was beautiful.

The only comparison I can think of something this off putting happening in the "mainstream" is Revolution 9 on The White Album. A giant fuck you. An incredibly bold move. A blow the fuck out to simple people expecting "weird", but Tim Burton level weird. This episode, and this season 3, really, is colossal. I didn't believe the president of Showtime when he said this was gonna be Lynch on heroin. I didn't believe him, although I wished it was true, but I couldn't believe it. It was impossible--this was gonna be on streaming on Netflix, advertised with pictures of pies and coffee, celebrating all the returning cast. "It will try to recapture the old style and mood and fail", I sigh in resignation. "Lynch is out of form, Frost is involved..." But now, we have this. And this is something else. This is radical new television. Ballsy, bold, angry new television. Everything else seems amateur now. It's like a real fucking auteur came to television kicking the door to put everyone to shame.

I think you guys are overthinking things. Twin Peaks Season 3 is just a show about a guy with memory loss that rediscovers himself.

That's what Mulholland Dr was supposed to be as well (with a girl) since it was originally a pilot episode for a television series - the second 'half' of MD was added onto the 60-minute pilot to have a 'conclusion' and to be able to release it together as a feature-length film to recoup losses when the pilot wasn't picked up.

Lynch is just using Twin Peaks to make the show he couldn't make before, not making a something concerned intimately with Twin Peaks mythology/lore, which he doesn't care about except as a means to achieve his memory-loss story objectives.

The lore stuff is the least important bit of the show and the least substantial. It doesn't matter if or how the lore stuff makes sense.

I don't have a lot of things in my life to look forward to any more, but Twin Peaks is one of them.

When we are only given 50 minutes per week of story, and 3 of those minutes are Nine Inch Nails lip-and-instrument-syncing to a b-side track, and 15 of those minutes are filled with someone playing around in Adobe After Effects, it is really fucking disappointing.

Why couldn't this have been a two-part episode?

I only have 2 complaints with the episode and you touched on them then. I felt that the surreal imagery without dialogue went for a little bit too long and I'm worried that Laura may be some deus ex machina character.

I personally think she was normally conceived and all that, but her soul shone brighter than most because of what the giant did, which both made her a target for corrupting forces and drew people to her.
