season 3 was filmed as a long movie with no episodic structure. the bands performing at the roadhouse are used when there is no clear transition from one episode to another. but in NiN's case, there was no easy transition between present-day and 1945, so they used NiN for that.

Alright. I get it now. Lynch didn't know where to put all the miscellaneous shit he'd been casually working on in his spare time since Inland Empire, so he decided to put it in a blender and slap the Twin Peaks logo on it. As a fan of absolutely all of Lynch's stuff up to this point, I actually have to draw the fucking line here. This revival is not a massive disappointment because "It's only for real Lynch fans". This is a disappointment because none of this footage actually holds an ounce of fucking power. The season's world hasn't been developed or grounded at all, so whenever a "weird" or "surreal" moment comes up, it means absolutely nothing whatsoever. The audience is not displaced. There is no shift. It is flat. Fucking monotone.

I'm mad, and I'm sure a lot of other people are too, but are just too afraid to say it because there's an army of rabid Lynch fans who'll tear anyone who dares criticize a single aspect of the show a new asshole. I do not give a flying fuck if the series is "building up" or "about to come full circle". Lynch is building a Jenga tower of borderline nonsensical plot developments on a base that, quite frankly, never even existed to begin with because it was never actually written in. Nothing in this season is tangible. It is as useful as air. It is gimmicky trite tossed in to please the lowest common denominator of Lynch-tards who do nothing but rave about aesthetics and drool over TP fan art on Instagram.

I disagree. Twin peaks had its time and place, it was fleshed out already, and I never expected Lynch to just stroll down memory lane.

It does seem like he's using a lot if ideas he's had, but it's more like TP is the vehicle for them, the bread that let them take tangible form. This season is sterile and cold but it doesn't feel like a missed mark, it feels intentional. It's also too early to make a call. Creating an entire show around weird imagery does not a good show make. Imagery can enhance a scene, or give it deeper meaning. But if it is nothing but imagery, it's all meaningless noise. Lynch had to go and over indulge in all the "le weird shit" that Twin Peaks was known for. It's like salt: It can enhance the flavors of a meal, but if all you give is salt, then it's disgusting.
