Yes, it is pure fucking kino. That being said you might enjoy it more if you watch some anime before watching it. Maybe watch a mecha anime too, it's not required but it will completely change how you experience it. Especially if you are used to the tropes from mecha anime. It's not required though by any means, you can watch it on it's own and still get a lot out of it.

It was just an hour of Lynch doing exposition in the way you would expect Lynch to exposition. It's not some huge cosmic puzzle to labor analyticaly over, but it's certainly not just a bunch of random image.

If it was interspersed with a scene in the roadhouse then fine but it wasn't so I don't care at all. Honestly even when people have been tested by this season it hasn't bothered me I have enjoyed every moment of this strange and beautiful ride but this was the first time where I felt like Lynch was taking a shit on the audience.

Why are people always jumping to the conclusion david lynch has to be laughing at them, are they that self centered?

Setting aside the concept of Twin Peaks and the episode's bearing on the series, am I the only one who thinks this is one of the most cinematic / art house episodes of television in years?

The sound design, the cinematography, the imagery, how it communicated all of the themes and ideas of the episode, everything. I'm not sure if I'm a fan of some of the plot implications (Laura is a supernatural spawn to fight off evil spirits? BOB has a physical form? Was NIN necessary?), but goddamn I felt like I was watching a piece of cinema.

Season two tanked because they revealed the killer (under pressure from the studio, Lynch intended to leave it unresolved), the James subplot, and because Audrey and Cooper each went for someone else (at the insistence of McLaughlin).

The main hook was the question of who killed Laura, and the other problems removed much of any emotional investment anyone had with the characters and their interactions/relationships.

Nuclear weapons work by fission.
The building blocks of life being torn apart. It releases tremendous energy.
This happens for the first time, and then mother nature is sick and vomits up a lot of badness into the world.
Before/during this happening there is no second floor at the convenience store. The soot covered men seem to move around randomly, without purpose.

The giant is a kind of butler for the fat woman (was expecting her to sing in the opera theater desu), he created something, a soul, and she sent it down to earth. That place, then, was a lighthouse in a sea of chaos. Downstairs they could hear things. Upstairs see things. Now there is only a downstairs and the (different) woman was blind.

Now, I'm wondering if that egg was the soul. (man gives sperm/soulstuff to woman, she births it into the world). it hatches into a NEW form of life. Which then inhabits the girl while the other stuff happens.

I'm also getting a kind of horsemen of the apocalypse vibe as well.

Is this the right kind of lens to be looking at this through? Anything I thought of have merit?

If you notice in the shots of "The Experiment" releasing the column of fluid, within it are loads of eggs similar to the one that hatches. I'm inclined to say that the creature isn't Bob due to Bob seeming to be separate from the rest and not containing an egg

This right here is the Midichlorians/Engineers moment of Lynch's career.

He revisited an acclaimed past work only to give us a bizarre and unnecessary explanation to something that was better left as a mystery.

BOB being a spooky spirit that looks like a hard rock trucker of some sort operating in a small town is far more interesting than this late 90s point-and-click windows media FMV adventure we're getting as a backstory.

I don't mind the artistic aspect of it whatsoever, I just wish this new Lynch kino we're getting wasn't associated with Twin Peaks.

So people are saying Cooper was born in 1956 so you think the boy and girl were his parents? And I guess the bug thing was the orb that was let into 1956 and crawled inside the girl. And it had Laura's soul in it. So Cooper and Laura were linked basically since Cooper's birth.

I have a few questions.

1. Some are saying we witnessed the creation the Black Lodge in the 1950's or whatever. However, according to the show, Native Americans had known of the existence of the two lodges long before that.

Were we witnessing not the creation of the Black Lodge but its breach into this world?

2. What was with the Laura ball?

3. How did that one dude get another gun when he was with Evil Coop?

For the 1000000000000000^10th time.
The lodges and their inhabitants do not exist in time.
>>
>>84306819
BOB wasn't created at that moment. The formless woman who is the creation of darkness simply expelled him in a vomiting fit of garmonbozia. He always existed. The nuclear weapon just dedicated the great evil of man into a tangible form which gave him the symbolic power to begin entering our world as he must've done in aeons passed being an embodiment of evil from the darkness. The lodge was part of old native american folklore, so no, BOB was only released by the act, thinning the permeable layer between this world and the other. Everything is metaphor, and this one isn't anything to take literally. It is fucking spirits, immortal and ancient.

>>84307089
Season two already hinted that BOB is the evil in every man; he is the potential for evil given agency to corrupt and drive people to become their cruelest and most vile form. Black lodge is not "hell" except in some Buddhist sense of being punished by your own karma. It exists because people are evil and do evil against their better natures. "Hell" is something we make.

>>84307137
I think the mystery Laura creates is meant to bring Cooper to defeat BOB. I think Laura in the red room is the mystery of herself, more so than the person she embodied in others (they assume she was good, but she was actually a terrible, troubled person) opinions. Her mystery brings Cooper, makes him follow the path destiny has crafted for him. The entire story is a mixture of abstract heroic epic and the melodrama and mundane absurdity of real, everyday life. In this way, hell is meaningless: life is already hell and heaven in Lynchland.

Time is not linear concerning the lodge. It affects past, present and future. As seen when Dale shows up to Laura in the lodge before he ever arrives in town.

>What was with the Laura ball?
The giant created an antithesis to BOB/vomit demons evil. Presumably to defeat them. Whether this'll pay of later we don't know. (probably)

I posted this on the Live Discussion thread, but I feel it also needs to be reiterated here:

For all of you inclined to piss all over everyone's bonfire with "This episode SUCKED! Nothing happened!!! If you actually liked or try to defend this, you're just a Lynch apologist (or "Lynch-tard" or some such foolishness)", in the words of Diane, "Fuck you". Okay?

I'm not a die-hard David Lynch fan, but I am a Twin Peaks fan; have been since 1990. I stayed dedicated to it through the high and low points, and when Fire Walk With Me came out, I saw it three times in the theater, the first time on its opening day. The series was the crossroads of my perception of what television could be, and it expanded my creative horizons far more than I could ever have imagined.

That being said, tonight's episode frustrated the ever-loving piss out of me, and when I saw the screen that said "In Two Weeks", I wanted to punch in my 4K monitor. But you know what's AWESOME about that? It left me wanting more, and I'll be back for more in those two weeks. I actually love that it frustrated me; it would have been a complete failure for me if I was left feeling like I didn't care.

I'm sure some people watched this and said, "Welp, that's it for me. I tried but I'm done with this bullshit." And that's fine if that's how it has to be for you. But for me, I'm craving more. I'm craving understanding and I'm sitting here, putting the pieces together, theorizing and interpreting and re-interpreting...and I think that's what makes this show so fucking GOOD.

We didn't see the lodge created. The Giant inhabits the weird nonexistent purple dimension. The Lodge was probably always out there, it just didn't have it's familiar form or a reason/means to connect to Earth until the bomb.

>The lodge was part of old native american folklore, so no, BOB was only released by the act

You have misunderstood the lodge. It interacts nonlinearly with time in our world, which is why Annie can visit Laura from the lodge even though Laura is dead a year before Annie even enters the lodge, or how similarly Cooper can tell Laura not to take the ring even though she is dead before he enters the lodge.

From our perspective in this world it doesn't matter when the lodge was created, since from inside it the present, future and past are meaningless. Thus, it is perfectly possible for BOB and even the lodge itself to have been created by the trinity test, and then have it interact with native Americans in the 1600's. Similarly BOB could have been created by the trinity test and then gone on to exist and interact with various time periods from inside it.

Outside it there is time, yes, but since it access time nonlinearly from our perspective it has always existed. That's how frames of reference work in relativity. That's also how Annie can visit Laura years before she actually enters the lodge.

I don't subscribe to the ideas you're presenting. Yes, time is nonlinear, but the caveat here is that "evil" is conceptually not necessarily created at any time. It doesn't need a genesis. It is eternal and abstract by nature, waiting in a void of ideas waiting to exist in the world and in minds, but nevertheless existing beyond the presence of a mind to conceptualize them. The bomb just acts as a symbolic introduction to absolute evil's conception, not its literal creation. It represents a moment where evil becomes so real it takes a form humans can point to ass all-destructive, omnipotent, etc.

These distinctions are not at odds with each other; both interpretations work. BOB can be seen to be created at that moment in time from something more eternal. That is the feminine darkness, fear (garmonbozia is fear, darkness = fear, sexual contest for women = fear, mother of evil) gives birth to an aspect of a kind of fear, BOB.

Maybe BOB has always existed but BOB we see in the show is "modern," an embodiment of a kind of American folkloric monstrous slasher character. You just can't have "birth" when something isn't following rules in the sense that abstracts are ideas, not laws of physics. They don't need birth or death unless it's purely nonfunctional or symbolic. They don't have mechanical cause and effect like a concrete world of physics.
>>
>>84307829
The point im making is, you could from 1950s send a dream-message to some dinosaur that he should go the lodge

But the lodge wouldn't be there for it to go in till 1950s

At the same time, I haven't watched FWWM, but at least with Coop, all the dreams he has along the series, he actually experiences them later inside the lodge, its like is not the lodge that is time-travelling, but is his mind, he is dejavuing/having premonitions.
>>
So did Lynch just drop the ball again like he did with Season 2? I can't get friends to watch tonight's weird shit.

And is Mr. C going to go find Dale now that it looks like BOB got greased by Ray and some hobos?
>>

Since he is interacting with our world from inside the lodge these distinctions are moot. It doesn't matter when he was created or how, from inside the lodge he has always existed/will always exist. From our perspective.

>you could from 1950s send a dream-message to some dinosaur that he should go the lodge

>But the lodge wouldn't be there for it to go in till 1950s

It is there. The dinosaur could go into it. It has always been there from our perspective because it interacts with time nonlinearly. This isn't a Lynch thing this is a physics thing. Since you can access different time periods from it, from the perspective of those time periods it does exist, it doesn't matter when it was created.
>>
>>84308022
BOB always seemed to me to be the chief bad dude of the Black Lodge but also not unchallenged or unquestioned. There is even a scene where we see BOB bargain with a group of the others to maintain peace.

Pretty sure BOB wanted to get out of the Black Lodge for good and go worldwide with his fun but his ass just got greased by Ray for real.
