Hasbro is developing a separated cinematic universe for their non-Transformers properties, and Valiant and Image are trying to make theirs happen as well.

One of the mandates of "Transformers" movies is tying them to historical events. So those are some historical events they're interested in. Tunguska was actually part of a proposed backstory for Shockwave all the way back in the third movie that they ended up not using.
