It's not that I'm terribly critical or supportive. I'm most critical of how proficient with the force she is after only a few hour of knowing of it. Sure, Luke had his moment blowing up the death star but that was executed in a much different way. She was indeed a Mary Sue, at least so far as we understand the character. Her discovery of the force could have been handled in a much better way. Suspension of disbelief is delicate. It works best when you don't realize it's happening. I remember having a moment while watching TFA in theaters where I thought, "Okay, this is where I'm supposed to suspend disbelief."

No, Daisy. It's a legitimate term that describes a shittily written character. Rey wasn't really vulnerable except for one or two scenes. Those would be when she's Force-frozen by Kylo and when she's being mind probed, although she turns the tables because she's supposedly strong in the Force for some reason yet to be explained in the coming movies. At least you know in Ep IV that Luke's father was a Jedi and a skilled pilot (explained by Obi Wan).

Rest of the movie:
>Fends off multiple muggers trying to steal BB-8 without help
>Sets up Finn for shot on final tie fighter in chase scene b/c he was rendered useless by mechanical failure
>Saves Finn from tentacle monster on cargo ship
>Uses Force suggestion technique on essentially first try - which took Luke years to master (until ROTJ) - and escapes her cell without needing to be rescued by Finn, Han, and Chewie
>Goes toe to toe with Kylo, who's been trained in Jedi and (more recently) Sith arts. Yes he was injured by Chewie's bowcaster, but Sith feed off of anger and pain.

If she was a Mary Sue she wouldn't have gotten captured by Kylo, opened the Rathtar chambers, misfired the blaster, (would have) accepted the fact that she was ditched sooner ("they'll come back"), or run away from the "force responsibility" like a little bitch after her force vision. She's overpowered as hell, but not without flaws.
