As good as the episodes were, DS9 kind of dropped the ball on the Ferengei.

There were a few good episodes like the Roswell one, the Quark's mother one, and the weapons trader one, but itherwise the Ferengei were complete comic relief when really in TNG they had at least somewhat equivalent development to the Federation in their Alliance.

I agree with his decision. Bashir was a much better character before they made him an augment. His lines, stupid calculations, perfect dart game etc. all seemed like lazy shortcut writing.

The later seasons of DS9 were good in some ways, but the writers definitely got lazy. Just look at what happened with Gul Dukat.

You can look up the full explanation but basically TNG, DS9 and VOY were filmed with 35mm film. The CG was applied during post, but to save time and money they first ran the 35mm to VHS tier film (lower res) then did the CG at a lower resolution. In order to make an HD rerelease of TNG they first ran the 35mm to HD film, then redid ALL the special effects at HD. It was long and expensive and didn't make a return on their investment. In order to make DS9 HD they'd need to redo all of the special effects or have HD crisp models next to pixelated/blurry CG.

I'm watching through DS9 for the first time and I just watched an episode that set up a potentially great story arc and threw it away in the laziest way possible.
It's the episode where they find the planet in the Gamma quadrant with the colony made up of their own descendants after the defiant was sent 200 years back in time. Odo is confined on the ship because the forcefield around the planet prevents him from holding his shape, and old/alternate Odo tells Kira he's always been in love with her.
I was looking forward to a bunch of episodes where Kira knows this and Odo doesn't, which would have had great potential for comedy or good drama. Too bad the writers fucked it all up by having old Odo just straight-up tell present-day Odo what he did. I haven't watched any episodes past that point so I don't know how it turns out but I'm already disappointed.
