My favorites from him are Vertigo, Rear Window, Strangers on a Train, and North by Northwest. His "best film" is generally regarded as Vertigo but I personally enjoyed the other movies on my list more, even if Vertigo is still incredible.

I think it's rated right where it should be. I watched it recently for the first time and it really wasn't that great. The characters weren't very compelling, the story itself felt a bit too far fetched (with the villain's motivation for killing his parents and faking his death completely unclear/asinine), and that wink at the end to the camera seemed really out of place for a Hitchcock film.
