Child stars are shit. Teenage stars are usually shit.

They usually get young-looking 20somethings to play teenagers.. They particularly like getting people with the Gary Coleman disease to play kids. That way they can have like a grown adult who's actually a decent actor playing like an 9 year old like Brick in The Middle or Webster.

Not to mention when they're hiring minors to play minors they need to get their financial guardians to sign off on their contracts and manage the minor's pay, which frequently can turn out disastrous. It's better to have someone who's legally an adult play teenagers.

Labor laws, for one thing. Minors have limited working hours in acting just as they do in any other job.

Another is that teenagers grow up fast. From beginning to end of a season, a fifteen year old can totally change in size & appearance. A twenty year old is more physically stable - they're not shooting up three or four inches in a year and having the whole shape of their face change in a few months anymore.
